Got a voicemail from this number warning me about possible legal trouble. When I rang them back, a person pretending to be from HMRC told me I was owed £738 because of an error on their side. They then asked for my bank card info to send the refund. Obviously, I just ended the call straightaway.

Properly dodgy call for anyone not clued up that it’s a rip-off. Claiming to be from HMRC, some Jennifer Coleman pops up again with a serious issue against me, urgent and all that. The red flags went straight up when they didn’t even say who the message was actually for - just “this call is for you.” The phone number looked sketchy too, and they ended with “have a blessed day,” which is just way off for HMRC. They’d for sure send a letter first and definitely use your name, not this weird nonsense.

I’ve been wondering what these callers actually get out of ringing people up. I’m fairly certain it’s all about WORKING TAX CREDIT or UNIVERSAL CREDIT claims. Honestly, I can’t imagine a clearer sign of claiming money because you supposedly have a job. Or wait, maybe they’re trying to flog the BIG ISSUE? A proper job!!!
