They say they’re Verso and claim to be based at 981 Great West Road, Brentwood - TW8 9DN. But the calls get redirected to Asia, and they’re using dodgy phone lists from all the major UK mobile networks like EE, Vodafone, Three, BT, Virgin and so on. Don’t bother calling them back or answering their calls - they’re straight up breaking the law by using fake info. Keep clear of these lot.

No clue who called, the number’s not familiar and the area code says Alton ??? No one I know from there, so I just blocked it. Now I’ve got over 500 numbers blocked on my phone. The trouble is, these call centres keep switching their caller ID to dodge blocks. The phone companies really ought to do something about it, make sure the callers can’t fake their ID and only show the real number.

I received a rather peculiar call from someone who seemed to have my details from over a decade ago-my former name and address, can you believe it? They were inquiring about my utilities, insisting that there was nothing untoward happening and they had no intention of selling me anything. I made it clear that there absolutely was cause for concern, especially considering the GDPR regulations, since my name and address have since changed. Rather abruptly, the caller decided to end the conversation. Quite the dodgy business, wouldn't you agree?

Whenever I receive these pesky calls, I tend to pick up straight away and greet them with something like, "Scottish Widows Insurance customer support line," or, "Financial Conduct Authority fraud awareness hotline, how may I assist you today?" in a rather polished tone. This tends to catch them off guard. There's often a pause while they fumble for their words, and they'll inevitably mispronounce my name when they ask for me. I then tell them, "You've reached the out-of-hours mobile service for XYZ support. Are you looking to report a scam, lodge a claim, or inquire about your policy details?" They usually sound utterly baffled and quickly hang up.
