Got a call from an Asian guy saying he needed to give me a cheque for some sort of personal injury from a crash, saying I was the driver. Then he put me through to a woman, also with an Asian accent but speaking better English. She insisted I’d been in a crash and that a cheque had to be sent out. Said it was info from my insurance, supposedly from some third party. Didn’t trust it at all, so I just hung up.

Most of the time, they kick off by saying they’ve been told I was in a crash with a vehicle linked to me, supposedly from the Road Traffic Accident office. I tend to ask them how exactly they found out and what kind of accident it was. Occasionally, they’ll give a few extra details, but quite often, they just say they got the info from the RTA department without much else.

I received a rather peculiar call the other day; there was a distinct clicking sound as I picked up, similar to those VOIP notifications you get with services like Skype. A man on the other end greeted me using my full name, which immediately raised my suspicions. However, the moment I probed about how he knew my name, he promptly disconnected without a word. I’ve registered with the Telephone Preference Service, so I’m well aware these calls are meant to be off-limits, yet without identification from them, I’m left somewhat powerless. It's worth noting that because it was a landline call, and marked as included in my mobile plan, I tried redialling a few times. Strangely enough, each time I did, the call would be cut off just before connecting, suggesting there must be a real person trying to block my attempts. No voicemail was left, nor any means to ascertain who they were - it’s all quite baffling! It’s clearly a dodgy operation, but I’m at a loss as to what exactly they were after.

Received a phone call purporting to be from my insurance concerning an active claim of mine. They mentioned a few official-sounding organisations, which, given my background in the field, I recognised as dodgy and misleading. I told the chap to get in touch with me via proper mail or email if he was indeed representing my insurer, noting that they would have my details on record for such correspondence. I ended the call before he had the chance to reply.
