I received a rather dubious text saying something along the lines of "Your CHASE Visa card has been deactivated," accompanied by a link to http://bagoak.com. It also had a jumble of random alphanumeric characters. I promptly dismissed it as I don’t own a CHASE Visa card. Clearly a scam attempt, and it could potentially be laden with malware. Today, I got a text from a number claiming to be from the Wells Fargo security team. The message stated there was some sort of "unauthorised use of my debit card" and included a link that looked rather dodgy. It was crystal clear that this was a scam-I mean, banks don't typically reach out like that! Moreover, I've never even held an account with them. I'm vigilant about checking my bank accounts regularly, so I can confidently say there’s nothing amiss on my end.

The language was rather peculiar, and it contained a "FRM:" tag filled with what appeared to be a jumble of letters. Unsurprisingly, I skipped reading it, swiftly deleted the text, blocked the number, and switched off all notifications.

Not wanting to take any chances, I refrained from clicking on that dodgy link. Instead, I swiftly deleted the message, blocked the number, and promptly rang up my bank for clarification. Better safe than sorry, right?

It's become rather tiresome, particularly as they keep buzzing through even though I've blocked the sender. I got a message from this number on 29th October 2018 at 9:31 in the morning. The message was like this: "FRM:info SUBJ:wellsfargosupport MSG:We've sent you a new alert! Please click to respond: viewnotification5.com." Not a chance I'm replying! I don't even hold an account with Wells Fargo! Considering it’s an election year, my phone’s been bombarded with countless automated texts from SuperPACs and various candidate campaigns. It makes me wonder if one of those political campaigns might have sold my details to some dodgy, or even a so-called 'legitimate', data broker. I’m not sure what the proper term is for them, but they should definitely have one!

In the past week, I've been inundated with no fewer than eight messages from a certain Ivar Santos. They’re all about some sort of promotional gig, searching for folks willing to slap their sticker on cars, trucks, or bicycles for a nifty payment of £500 weekly. I’ve replied with “stop” not once, but twice, and even dropped them an email requesting to cease all communication. Yet, they stubbornly persist! I’ve blocked the initial number, only for them to switch it up and bombard me from a different one. How frustrating!
