Received a rather dodgy unsolicited call from someone whose accent was a bit off, to say the least... need I go on? I can count on one hand the instances where I've found such calls to be anything but a ploy. I reckon one can hardly go wrong assuming these types of calls are all scams-better to err on the side of caution, I say. Especially when you consider the reputation of places like Bishop Auckland, given all the hullabaloo you see on the news from those parts in recent years. She claimed my washing machine warranty had run out and tried to get me to renew it. I was pretty sure it was a scam because D&G already sent an engineer to fix my machine, which was actually recalled. If she really worked there, she’d have known that. I told her I’d report her to D&G, then she said goodbye and hung up. Usually these calls are recorded, but this one felt like a live chat and she wanted me to renew right then and there. No chance!

Called me unexpectedly on a Saturday arvo. There was a bit of muffled chatter on their end, so I gave them a firm 5 seconds to state who they were. They promptly cut the line.

Got a guy called 'kevin' with a strong Indian accent from 'domestic and general' pretending to help with renewing washing machine insurance - even after I kept saying we don’t have it anymore. Feels like a total scam to me.

Got a call off someone named David saying he was from DandG insurance. I knew it was dodgy so I asked about the premium, and he said he’d put me through to his boss. I just muffled the phone under a cushion and left it for like 15 minutes, then hung up. They tried ringing me back three times, so I suppose they thought I’d fall for it!

I got a call trying to get me to renew some sort of washing machine insurance again, which happens every now and then. I decided to keep the person on the phone for a bit because at least then she couldn’t be bothering someone else. After a while, she snapped and asked why I was wasting her time, then just cut me off straight away before I could even reply.

Got a call from 01388 741867, some bloke with an Indian accent saying he was "David". He started going on about a warranty for my D&G washing machine, but never asked for me personally. I just sort of said I don't have one (no idea if I've got a machine or a warranty, honestly, meant to throw him off). Suddenly, he just hung up without a peep!

This number has rang me a few times over the past week, but every time it just went to my voicemail with no message left. Feels a bit dodgy and could even be classed as harassment. If they're legit, why on earth wouldn’t they bother leaving a message? Seems odd to me.

I just got a call from this number claiming my washing machine’s warranty expired. I told them that’s no way true since it’s meant to be covered for 5 years. They just hung up after that.

Someone called me asking for my mum. When I told them she passed away back in 2001, they just kept repeating the question. I had to say it a couple of times, like “She’s dead, gone, no longer here, can you get that?” But the caller didn’t seem to get it and just kept asking about a washing machine warranty. Then started quizin me about an old washing machine I supposedly have. Proper annoying!

Got a call around 8.15 on a Saturday morning, they were using my middle name which I guess they got from PayPal or something, claiming my D&G washing machine warranty had expired. Told them it wasn’t me and said no thanks, then they just hung up. I ended up tweeting D&G to let them know about this dodgy scam.

This particular number has been ringing us incessantly every Saturday morning, precisely shortly after 8 o’clock. I must say, it’s becoming increasingly tiresome, especially since it disrupted our sleep last week. Every time we pick up or attempt to return the call, there’s silence on the other end. Supposedly from Domestic & General. They tried to sell me half price insurance because of the coronavirus! I told them straight up it was a scam and to do one. She wasn’t too happy about that. Honestly, they should find a real job!

Got a call from someone called Rosie about washing machine insurance that apparently ended back in November 2020. She wanted to renew it, but I told her to ring me again in about an hour so I could double-check the details. Thing is, I’ve never actually had any insurance for my washing machine. If she does ring back, I might as well ask her about my fridge insurance too, even though I’m pretty sure I’ve never had that either!
