Missed a call from someone claiming to be about a recent accident - annoying! I’ve got calls like this from different numbers before. Hopefully, they ring me back soon. If you want to mess with them a bit (and maybe get them to stop), answer with loads of enthusiasm. Tell them you’ve literally just had the accident and are drowning in paperwork. Ask them nicely if they could hold on for a moment. When they stay on the line waiting, just put the phone down and forget about it. They think they’ve got a big catch, but really, you’re just wasting their time and stopping them from pestering others. After 5 or 10 minutes, try checking if they’re still there. If so, apologise for keeping them waiting and ask them to hang on a bit longer. Keep going until they finally give up. Works for all those annoying cold calls! I once kept one person on hold for half an hour - felt sorry for her in the end and told her off. She was well annoyed!

Checking out the recent comments, it’s clear this is a fresh scam - a few months ago it was all about credit card stuff, not cars or accidents. Seems like they’ve switched tactics, but here’s hoping they don’t get away with it.

Got a call saying I'd been in a car crash, but when I told them no, they just brushed it off and kept asking what kind of accident it was. I kept saying I hadn't been in one and then they just ended the call. Classic spam stuff.

I didn't answer the call as I didn't recognise the number, it wasn’t in my contacts or anything I’m interested in. Figured it might just be some annoying sales call or spam.

Got a call about some kind of road accident. I told them I'd lost my leg but they must have been checking, so they passed me onto a supervisor. Told the same fib again and then, just like that, they ended the call. Honestly, no laughs to be had here :-/

Got a call from someone claiming to be Emma Mackitosh at Proficient Helpline. They wanted to know if I’d had a car crash. At first, the voice seemed like a robot, but it turned out to be a real person after I kept asking questions. I’ve blocked the number now, but it might be pointless because Proficient Helpline seems to use loads of different phone numbers. Best to just ignore it, in my opinion.

Watch out, this has to be a scam. I just got a call from them asking if I'd been involved in a car crash. Don't pick up, just block them straight away.
