Something really similar just went down with me earlier. I'm self-employed and already on HM Revenue's books. If there was any legal action, surely they’d send an official letter or email first. It's ridiculous to get a phone call pretending to be your “last warning” when you haven't even been served anything properly. Don’t bother calling them back - it’s a scam and they’ll just try to con you. If you're signed up with HM Revenue, just log into your account and look at your notifications. I promise, there won’t be any mention of a lawsuit in there.

this number rang me up with a recorded message saying i’m going to be sued by hm revenue & customs. i tried calling back from another phone and some bloke answered saying "hm revenue & customs." i just hung up straight away. watch out folks, don’t give out any details if you get called by this number - it’s definitely a scam.

Just got a call from some scammer pretending to be HM Customs and Excise. They were trying to get my personal info and credit card details. Definitely don’t share anything with them! If you want to check, ring the fraud team at HM Customs on 0300 123 2040. Stay safe out there!
