Got a call from someone claiming to be with the Carphone Warehouse. I told him I don't actually own a mobile. He insisted everyone has one, but I told him straight up I don’t deal with scams and he should just buzz off back to where he came from. Total nuisance!

I got a call from someone with an Indian accent pretending to be from Carphone Warehouse in Burnley. They told me I owed some money and if I didn’t pay up, I’d end up in court. They offered a 10% discount if I paid over the phone to dodge the whole legal thing. It sounded dodgy to me so I said I used to live in Burnley and asked exactly where their office was. At first, the caller just repeated "Carphone Warehouse in Burnley," but when I pushed for the street name to see if I knew it, they just hung up on me.

This is definitely a SCAM! Make sure you report every suspicious call straight away to the police’s fraud site. Just search ‘action fraud’ on Google and visit ‘police.uk’. Find the page for ‘reporting phishing’ and take a moment to go through all the info there. Then, enter the details of the scam including any URLs or other links you have. You don’t need to sign up or give personal info unless you’ve actually lost money to the fraud. The police rely on people reporting these scams to track them properly, so please don’t ignore it!

There’s been a couple of posts about what to do if you want to put an end to these dodgy foreign callers ripping off vulnerable people and pestering everyone else. It does take a little bit of time and effort but I’m doing my part by reporting scam calls and messages straight to the police website (I've bookmarked the link). The sad reality is it’ll need thousands of folks doing the same before any real change takes place, and every day tons of people report scams here. It won’t fix things overnight, but if nobody bothers, these scams will just keep on going.

04/05/22 I got a call from a bloke with an Asian accent who said his name was Michael. He said he was ringing from my mobile network and was offering me a 20% off on my monthly charges. When I asked which company, he said it was 02. He couldn’t tell me who the account holder was, which was odd since I don’t even have a monthly plan. Afterwards, he sent me a text with some code, telling me to reply to it. I told him I wasn’t buying it and just hung up.

While I was chatting with my daughter on the phone, this number rang us at the exact same moment! We checked and the numbers were the same, and they both stopped ringing simultaneously. Our mobile numbers differ by just five digits, so it’s clear these scammers use some kind of software to dial lots of similar numbers all at once, hoping someone answers first. Got a call today from a guy claiming he was with Carphone Warehouse. He tried to convince me to get a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra on an early upgrade deal for £30 a month, saying there were no extra charges. But since my contract doesn’t end till December next year, I was pretty sure it was a scam. I asked him to email me the details, and the email looked really dodgy - the address didn’t even seem real. 100% a scam in my opinion. Watch out everyone!

I got a call from a woman claiming she was from O2, offering me half price on my phone bill for a year plus a free Samsung tablet. It all sounded convincing, so I shared my info with her. Later, I found out someone had accessed my account and ordered an iPhone 13 Pro Max, but the delivery address was switched to 11a Fulwood, Churchill Road, Preston PR2 6XT and it was signed for by someone named SHAH. When I called O2, they told me I’d been scammed. Be careful and don’t let this happen to you!
