I just received a rather puzzling call at 11am on the 10th of November, 2021, from a company claiming to be "Bens Gutters." They were touting their services for gutter cleaning, indicating that they were in my area. Oddly enough, the number was from Brighton, yet I reside in Kent! When I inquired how they got my details, the caller insisted they had my wife's name on record as someone who previously requested a quote. I checked with her, and she denied ever contacting them-quite the fib, I would say. The caller maintained they had her name, our telephone number, and our home address on file, which is rather concerning. Although he was courteous, I firmly asked him to erase our information since it’s an ex-directory number. I've now reported this to the Telephone Preference Service. I'd consider reporting it to the police as well, but I suspect it might not lead to anything productive.

The caller claimed they were coming to clear my neighbour's gutters on the 26th of November 2021 and offered to do mine at the same time. I must admit, I was rather sceptical about this unsolicited approach, especially since they not only had my name but my address too, despite being ex-directory and not appearing on the public electoral register. After giving it some thought, I politely declined their offer and hung up. Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to call the number back to investigate how they had obtained my personal information, only to be greeted by an answering machine message from a marketing firm!
