She said ‘direct debit’, which was odd cause we don’t have any cover. Played along a bit more, then told her to stop wasting my time and called her a con artist, threw in some colourful words, and she just hung up. Bet they deal with rude people all the time.

Based on what folks are saying, this definitely doesn't seem legit and you should never share your bank info with random callers. Don't hand over any personal or bank details to strangers on the phone. It's a scam, for sure. Better to report it to the police.

This has to be a scam, they keep saying I’ve got Sky when I clearly dont. I told them I never signed up but they just keep pushing it. Don’t get why they’re still allowed to ring people like this. Got a call from an Asian woman about insurance for my washing machine. She had all my info spot on. Then she put me on hold to speak with someone else. An Asian bloke came on saying I couldn’t pay by direct debit anymore as my washing machine was too old. He asked for my card details to sort payments. When I asked why no direct debit, he just hung up straight away. Definitely a scam, watch out!

Someone rang me claiming to be from British Gas, trying to lower my boiler cover payments that were supposedly up for renewal. They even used a name I hadn’t gone by for about 8 years, and I only got the cover around 3 months back. I told the caller it all sounded dodgy, but they just said I could call back later. I told them I’d ring British Gas direct and then ended the call.

They've rung a couple of times now, saying our washing machine insurance is about to expire and they'd renew it automatically. When we said we don’t even have insurance with them, they kept insisting we did. Then they tried to tempt us with a discount and asked whether we’d want to renew it for a year or five years. We then asked how much we’re currently paying monthly, and the woman said it’s not a monthly thing, it’s a one-time payment. We ended the call telling them we weren’t interested. Seems a bit dodgy to me. Would avoid.

Got a call yesterday looking for someone called Derek, which isn’t me. Got a call out of the blue saying my Sky gear’s cover has run out. They had the right name and address, which caught me off guard. I was nearly about to renew it, but then I remembered I either had Sky ages ago and the kit’s long since vanished, or I’ve not had any for over ten years. So annoying how these calls keep coming - I’ve got all sorts of “expired” cover I’ve never even signed up for, plus BT threatening to cut me off and now the TV licence people seem to be after me too.
