Got a call around 4pm on the 2nd of March from a lady with a strong Asian accent. She claimed I was eligible for a discount on my next insurance premium because I hadn’t made any claims on my home appliances. It sounded like a total scam, especially since she somehow knew my name! I told her I don’t have any appliance insurance and if something breaks, I just replace it. She ended the chat pretty quickly after that.

total scammer! they tried to sell me insurance for my tv and sky box, but i’ve never even had sky! plus, the postcode they had for me was ancient, like from 25 years ago, so it’s obvious they’re using some dodgy, outdated list. they wanted me to pay £200 on the spot, saying it was a huge discount - made me laugh, proper dodgy job.

A chap rang me regarding the warranty for my washing machine, asking to verify my name and address. He finally mentioned it was three years ago, which struck me as odd, then he stated it was a Hotpoint - a brand I don't even own! Without hesitation, he hung up on me. A gentleman who didn’t sound British, representing some "Home Services" outfit, rang up to inform me that my service warranty was on the brink of expiry today. Strangely enough, he had my name and address at his fingertips. When I queried which appliances this concerned, he rattled off an exhaustive list. (Notably, I only purchased a new fridge freezer just last week; his mentioning it was quite the glaring red flag!) I promptly told him I was onto his little scam since we don’t have any cover for those appliances.
