When I pressed him to identify which model of washing machine I had, he abruptly ended the call. Just a word of caution-right from the get-go, something felt off about the entire exchange.

Today my mum, who’s quite old, got a call from the number 01273 655125 about renewing her home insurance and a discount for no claims. She didn’t remember having any policy, so she handed the phone over to me. Together we probably stressed the caller out big time - sounded like they had an Irish accent! :) Just be careful and let older family know this is likely a sneaky scam!

Got a call from someone claiming to discuss renewing my kitchen appliance insurance. They knew both my first and last name, plus my address. Pretty sure it was dodgy since we don’t even have any combined cover for the washing machine, cooker or fridge under one policy. He also mentioned he’d sent me a letter 9 days earlier. Asked him to send it again and he ended the call immediately.

I asked him "Which freezer exactly?" and he just doubled down, saying fridge freezer and washer. I asked, "What brand is the washing machine then?" and he said "Hotpoint." Told him flat out we don't own a Hotpoint. That was the end of that - he hung up sharpish. Definitely a scam.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent claiming to have my details (which is odd since I’ve been ex-directory and haven’t shared that number in over a decade - probably using some old electoral roll info). She tried to sell me a renewal on my washing machine insurance, plus covers for other appliances. I don’t do those kinds of policies at all! I just ignored her chat, left the phone down and waited for her to run out of things to say before she hung up. Number’s blocked now.
