Got a call from someone about washing machine insurance. The bloke sounded like he was called Peter but was saying stuff about Rangit from Bangalore. He told my wife the insurance was about to expire and asked if the machine was still working fine. She said she wasn’t interested and he just hung up straight away. Ridiculous, so I’ve just blocked the number. What a waste of time.

Received a rather unexpected call earlier today from what claimed to be an insurance firm. They were jabbering on about my fridge and freezer policy nearing its expiration and pressed me to consider an extended warranty. It's all rather peculiar, as I've never encountered insurance companies reaching out like this before. I'm quite aware of the scams that float around these days, so I'm inclined to think this might be one of those dodgy attempts.

These days I just ignore calls from unknown numbers, and honestly, I can't say I've lost out on anything important. I let the answering machine pick up instead because most of those scam calls won’t even leave a message. Just recently, I got a call saying some huge withdrawal was made from my bank and to press "1" if I wanted to stop it. Pretty sure that would've just linked me to a ridiculously pricey line. If I had picked up, they’d have got a quick “Get lost!” So seriously, never press any number when these sketchy calls come through!

Got a call from a guy, sounded Asian, about some PPI claim. Seemed a bit dodgy to me, so I just hung up. Probably just another scam.

Got a call from a guy with what sounded like an Eastern accent, claimed he was with D & G, saying the warranty on my washing machine was nearly up. I already have a full cover for kitchen stuff with them, so it felt fishy. When I asked why just the washing machine would be ending soon, he went completely silent and hung up. You pay them a regular fee hoping someone might eventually turn up when your trusty machine, which should really last longer, decides to pack in. Not buying it. Want to get off the hook? Just to update, I had a call from a lady with an Asian accent, talking about a washing machine scam. She gave a name that wasn’t quite right but close enough to tell I’m definitely on some scammer list. Lately, I’m getting about half a dozen calls a day from all sorts - Amazon, tech support, you name it. I always jot down and report every number, and when I’ve got the time, I mess with them for as long as I can.

Got a call from a woman saying she was a mate of my late dad, even dropped his full name, claiming they worked side by side in Brighton. At about half past one in the afternoon on 13 March 2020, I got a call on my landline from a courteous chap with an Indian accent (or perhaps Pakistani). He calmly said he was from a company handling my washing machine insurance. He mentioned that because I hadn’t filed any claims in the previous year, I qualified for a 30% discount. Then, I was transferred to a different guy who immediately wanted my bank card info. Shock, shock. Honestly, where have the police disappeared to with these sorts of scams?
