01269839047 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 01269839047 👆 is reported as a persistent source of scam calls, often impersonating utility companies like BT, mobile providers, or insurers to phish for personal or financial information. Callers typically use number spoofing and foreign accents, especially South Asian, exploiting victims by urging remote computer access or pressing keypad options. They employ tactics such as fake accident claims or account alerts, aiming to extract passwords or install malicious apps. Many victims advise ignoring unknown numbers, not engaging with callers, and never sharing personal details. Blocking the number is common, though scammers frequently change digits to bypass restrictions. Reports emphasise the importance of vigilance, not returning calls, and sharing knowledge with vulnerable groups. Official support is limited, so personal caution and reporting scams remain crucial defenses.

I often find myself agreeing, "quite right!" but when they request specifics, I simply inform them that I've passed away. It would be delightful to be a little fly on the wall and witness their reactions in that moment.

Honestly, I reckon BT needs to pull its socks up! I get that they can't entirely halt the cloning of phone numbers, but it wouldn't hurt if they could leave a recorded message to inform folks that this is indeed a cloned number being misused. Instead, when you try calling back, it's just silence on the other end-what a letdown! It's baffling that this number has been an issue since 2015, and BT should surely feel some embarrassment over it.

Why not have a bit of fun with these muppets when they ring us up? I’ve shared my personal best for stringing them along, and I'm eager to hear others' tactics too! I couldn’t help but laugh at the chap who quipped, "Are you inquiring about my giraffe named Colin?" Absolutely brilliant! Oh, and the bloke who introduced himself as “Joseph King,” but simply goes by “Jo” really had a clever twist. It took a moment, but he finally caught on with “Jo King.” Classic! 😂

I received a call from someone purporting to be associated with 'DMA', alleging that my information had been shared by an 'insurance firm' regarding a mishap. It seemed rather dodgy, like a fishing expedition for accident details. I decided to end the conversation promptly.

I received a call from 01483 694442 just now. The caller was insisting that he had the right information. Yet, when I mentioned he had my name wrong, he seemed quite convinced that he was spot on. It was hilarious when I pointed out I knew my own name! When I pressed him about what con he was attempting, he abruptly ended the call. Typical, isn't it?

I had a rather peculiar encounter with a chap from Pakistan, who identified himself as part of some mobile contract scheme. When I informed him I wasn't keen to engage, he proceeded to compliment my 'lovely woice'-yes, you heard that right! He then went on and on, pleading for me to remain on the line. Quite the odd situation, I must say!

I received a call from a chap with a strong Asian accent (surprise, surprise). He claimed to be representing EE, waffling on about reducing my bill as I’m a valued customer. To my shame, I had just woken up and naively provided him a password reset code, mistaking it for a two-step verification process. It took me about half a minute for the fog to clear, and I've since spent the last hour updating all my passwords just to be on the safe side. What an eye-opener! The moral of the story? Always scrutinise any message that requests a code. Oh, and after I ended the call, he rang me back from a different number - one that's actually listed as an EE inbound line, which is rather unsettling if I’m being honest. He even mentioned I could search for the number, which I believe corresponds to their upgrades department; the number is 0800 956 6000.

David, if it were as straightforward as you claim, then this multi-million pound racket rife with thievery and deceit wouldn’t be flourishing at all. It seems that the telecom firms (or so the whispers suggest) benefit financially both when these dubious numbers are registered and from the calls made through them, allowing these shady characters to continue their unscrupulous activities and swindle us, all while they maintain they are exerting every effort to put an end to it. It truly boggles the mind!

Lau TV It's astonishing, isn't it? One of the numerous dodges employed by these rather unscrupulous individuals is to bait us into calling them back. It’s rather disheartening, this age of ours, where the default setting appears to be distrust toward everyone and everything until proven otherwise. If your phone or you aren't familiar with the number flashing on the screen, chances are you're dealing with a scam artist. Let your voicemail take the strain, and only investigate the number later. Don’t even bother delving into its origin; it’s almost certainly a ruse, though some may seem more convincing than others. As a society, we have a colossal amount to grasp, yet sadly progress seems slow. At the moment, it’s plain that neither our government nor the telecom providers are inclined to assist us. The responsibility falls squarely on our shoulders to put an end to this.

Listen, everyone, these folks are relentless! They will try absolutely *anything* to get under your skin. They specifically target those who aren’t so tech-savvy, throwing out lines like, “I’ve just disconnected your Internet,” and then eagerly await your response. If you bite back with “Why’s that?” they’ve got you hooked. If your reply is “No, you haven’t,” they’ll simply move along to the next. Just a reminder, they can’t infiltrate your computer or connect to your Internet without knowing your IP address and other sensitive details, unless you allow them through some dodgy app. Do yourself a favour - don't let them fool you. Engage them in conversation if you must, but keep your personal details to yourself. Waste their time! Act like you’re following their instructions, and throw in some cheeky remarks about what their mum would think of their actions. Trust absolutely nothing they say and guard your information like it’s gold. Personally, I don't bother answering at all, but if you fancy toying with them, just be careful; if you engage, they'll make a note that you’re responsive, opening the door for even more calls. I’ve barely received any unwanted calls because I’m picky with whom I share my number and I always ignore those random digits that pop up. Instead of declining, I silence my phone and let them waste their breath. We need to come together against these nuisances, and it all starts with educating our elders. Then, as a united front, we can all tell them to take a hike!

I received a call from a woman with an accent resembling Indian phonetics, who initially claimed to represent Vodafone. She mentioned I was eligible for a whopping 30% reduction on my bill for a year and was even being offered a complimentary Apple Watch Series 4. I found it somewhat hard to believe, yet I was taken aback when she sent over a text message that displayed Vodafone’s name as well as the same number that I normally get my weekly rewards from. She then encouraged me to log into the Vodafone app, which I told her I didn’t have, and subsequently asked if I could access it via my computer. I explained that I was currently in my car and unable to do so. In the meantime, I decided to reach out to Vodafone's automated chat on their official site, and to my astonishment, they confirmed that it was indeed A SCAM. Before long, I received a phone call from a gentleman named Eric, who had an Indian accent as well, inquiring about my personal details. At this point, I swiftly ended the call and made sure to change all my account information straight away.

I've had the misfortune of dealing with a bloke who insists he's from GMC-total charlatan! If you find yourself with a bit of spare time, why not engage them in conversation? Should they request sensitive information like PINs or account details, feel free to conjure up some random numbers. It’s a surefire way to frustrate them and occupy their time without resorting to outright rudeness.

I received a call from someone with a pronounced Pakistani accent who introduced himself as Oliver Smith. Quite frankly, the conversation took a rather strange turn when he quizzed me about my preferences regarding brown men. To add to the bizarre nature of the call, he began making rather revolting sounds and explicitly mentioned wanting to see my 'bobs and vagene,' whatever on earth that could mean. I suspect this may have originated from a call centre in Southall.

I really enjoy these phone calls; they certainly add a bit of fun to my day! Spending half an hour playfully messing with them while I act as if I’m buying into their nonsense is quite entertaining. When I get a bit fed up, I tell them what I really think-calling them out for being lowlifes and in dire need of a good wash. Plus, it’s a nice way to deter them from targeting our older folks or those who might not be as savvy.

Received a call at around 9:50 this morning. There was a woman on the line with an Indian accent, claiming to be from the London vicinity, but there was quite a bit of background chatter. She addressed me by name and when I inquired who she was, she mentioned wanting to discuss life insurance. I didn't hesitate to hang up immediately and promptly blocked the number. Typically, I don’t answer calls that I don’t recognise, not entirely sure what compelled me to pick up this time.

A friend of mine received a call from someone who claimed to be Indian, asking him to switch on his computer because there was a problem with his internet connection (which my mate isn’t quite savvy about). After a lengthy fifteen-minute chat, the bloke guided him through some steps on the keyboard and, lo and behold, declared that everything was fixed before hanging up. What my friend failed to grasp was that his bank account had been compromised, and a hefty £3000 was pinched. Fortunately, his bank came to the rescue and sorted the mess out eventually. So, moral of the story? Steer clear of these dodgy callers!

Regrettably, BT seems disinclined to offer any assistance. After all, they're raking in profits from the usage of their phone network, so it's almost as if they turn a blind eye to the scammers - much like our government, led by Sunak. It's quite ironic, isn’t it? Sector 5 in Kolkata, where scam operations thrive, is just a single floor beneath Mr Sunak’s investment in Channel 18 News India. Quite the cosy arrangement, wouldn’t you say?

I've managed to dodge them so far, but eventually, I had to block the number altogether. It’s peculiar that they never seem to call my landline, always just my mobile. The persistent 020 number has become a real nuisance. It would be wonderful if someone at BT could step up and tackle this problem once and for all, as it’s becoming increasingly wearing!

I've just received two calls today from this number, claiming to be from a 3G provider, offering me a delightful 30% discount on my contract as a loyal customer, along with a complimentary Samsung Galaxy Tab Ultra. When I requested they call me back in five minutes, they agreed. However, during that time, I swiftly contacted 3G to verify the situation. They confirmed without a doubt that it was a scam and that they do not make such offers. When the scammers called back, I mentioned I’d be reporting them to the authorities, and they promptly hung up. Thankfully, I double-checked with 3G, as it all sounded far too good to be true. Please be on your guard, folks! P.S. Both times I was contacted, it was individuals speaking with Asian accents.

I rang the number but no one picked up. When I attempted to return the call, I was met with a message saying "number not recognised". Quite puzzling!

The individual on the line was attempting to convince you to set up a 'remote access software' while disguising it as something else entirely. Had you obliged, they would have gained unrestricted entry to your computer and all your personal files. Additionally, if you find yourself wanting to return a call or press any buttons in response to a pre-recorded message, that’s usually a red flag. It’s best to simply end the call.

Received a call from this number earlier today. Opted not to pick up and thought it wise to look it up, which turned out to be a savvy move. Apparently, there's quite the backstory of dodgy calls associated with it!

I’ve noticed that the majority of these callers seem to be from Asian backgrounds. It's quite striking, really.

I’ve been getting calls on a number that's linked to my work; it features prominently in my email signature and on business cards I use in Italy and across Europe. So, I can't say I was entirely taken by surprise when these irritating calls started. This particular number rang twice in under a week. Each time, it was the same routine - a cheerful "good morning" followed by a "sorry to trouble you," after which the chap asked me to verify my name. Initially, I obliged, but then I thought better of it and ended the call. The second time, I informed him I wasn’t the individual he thought I was, and he instantly became rather hostile. Though he tried to reign it in, his tone was clearly off. I promptly hung up and blocked the number. They can’t fool you unless you hand over your personal information! Sure, they’ve got your phone number, but honestly, just give them the old British polite dismissal of “no thanks, mate”-that’s all these scammers truly merit.

It's pretty uncommon for BT to initiate calls to customers, and they certainly wouldn't have a clue if your account was compromised. They really depend on users to notify them of any issues. The only time you might find yourself cut off is if your bills are unpaid, which you can easily verify via the MYBT app or their website. I'm convinced this is definitely a scam; if you use BT Call Protect, you have the option to block these calls. Furthermore, BT doesn't possess the capability to share screens, so if any caller attempts to gain control over your device, just say no! Best wishes!

What a complete and utter con! I received a call from some chancers claiming they had secured compensation of £2,550 plus an extra £1,550 in interest from my bank for mis-sold PPI. When I asked them which bank they were talking about, I cheekily said it was the "Bank of Paris" - which, of course, isn’t real - and yet they didn’t seem to catch on! They proceeded to give me some reference and identification numbers, insisting they wouldn’t ask for any personal banking details, and mentioned some mysterious ‘wallet’. Then they transferred me to another bloke, who sounded like he was from Asia. He quickly asked for the IDs and references I'd just received. I deliberately supplied him with incorrect ones to see what he would do - he was baffled and then wanted my phone number to 'verify’ them. After a bit of back and forth, he handed me more IDs and references that didn’t match the initial ones at all! At one point, he even suggested I wasn't very tech-savvy and offered to assist me with accessing this wallet he talked about. He bizarrely asked me to switch my phone to loudspeaker and instructed me to download an app from the Play Store called AnyDesk. I realised then that he was trying to set me up for remote access to nab my personal details, bank info, passwords, you name it. It's truly outrageous how these lowlifes operate! It’s imperative we report such phishing attempts to the police and the Financial Conduct Authority immediately!

A chap with an Asian lilt rang me up, claiming to represent the Public Health department. I cheekily told him I hailed from Mars and that my extraterrestrial prowess revealed him to be nothing but a spammer. Straightaway, I blocked him!

Hello there! So, you reckon that someone might have pinched your private details? Is that even possible if you've not shared anything? Can it be established later on, or is it all just based on speculation and assumptions? Curious minds would like to know!

I received a similar call myself. When I inquired about when the so-called accident occurred, the woman retorted, "Don't you try to be clever with me, love," before promptly hanging up! What a laugh!

How can one be certain that their personal details have been compromised? What led you to that conclusion? Or could it be that you're merely speculating it might have happened?

Jon, I must say, your reply was absolutely spot on! Referring to it as a criminal offence against the crown and indicating that the call could be traced was rather astute.

"Does anyone know of any digits I can ring to confront this lowlife? Unfortunately, no. They operate using VOIP technology and number spoofing, meaning the number displayed on your device isn't actually the one they're dialling from. I suggest diving into the wealth of information on the Indian scamming scene - check out channels like Jim Browning, Pierogi, or Scammer Payback on YouTube. Once you've educated yourself, spread the word to friends and family so they can avoid falling victim to these scams. If you opt to ignore learning about it and refuse to pass on what you discover, you’re only contributing to the issue."

Oh, I can’t resist having a bit of fun with those calls! Just the other day, I got one informing me that my washing machine’s warranty was nearing its end. Honestly, I might have fallen for it if not for the fact that I’ve just bought a brand new machine that comes with a decade-long warranty!

Today, my husband got an email featuring this number, asserting that he had signed up for a service named FRESH BOOKS. BT has a significant stake in fibre optic infrastructure for both internet and telephone services. That said, various other providers rely on BT's network to deliver their services. If there's an issue, it’s typically your own service provider who will inform you, likely through their website or customer support channels.

As a former hypnotist, I wielded the unique ability to coax the truth out of the chap on the line. It didn’t take long for him to confess that he was an experienced burglar, intent on draining my bank accounts and claiming my property. Naturally, I couldn't comply with his underhanded requests and suggested he find a lovely spot to enjoy himself - somewhere rather unpleasant. When he cheekily inquired if I had any brochures for such destinations, I had to straightforwardly tell him to ‘bugger off’ - a globally recognised expression, if you will.

Could we please refrain from using the term "Asian"? It's more accurate to specify that it's individuals of Indian descent who are involved in scamming activities internationally. Let's ensure we're being precise by mentioning that the voice on the line had an Indian accent.

My phone flagged the call as a potential scam. I allowed it to ring but didn’t pick up, and soon enough, a voicemail popped up saying, 'We currently don't have any agents available, but please return the call if you require assistance' or something along those lines. Quite the cheek, isn’t it? 😂
