When I asked him what the reason for the call was, he got a bit defensive and just said it doesn’t matter if I didn’t want to chat. Then he said goodbye and ended the call. Felt pretty odd to me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with the national debt office, and their very first question was how much money I owed. I told them £500, thinking they probably only help if you owe several thousand. When I rang the number back, I got an answerphone from UK housing. It said if I want a callback, press 1, and to remove myself from their list, press 2. Bit dodgy if you ask me.

Got a phone call from a Blackburn number about some government debt scheme. They called twice, first time I answered and they just hung up right away. When they called back, they said they were from a national debt office. They mentioned my date of birth but had the wrong year, which made me suspicious. Since I don’t owe anything, I figured it was probably a scam and used the incorrect DOB as a reason to end the call quickly. After reading other people’s experiences, I’m even less sure they were legit.
