Here's a bit from the Debt Collection Guidelines from the Office of Fair Trading - maybe Cap Quest should have a proper read of this: Statute barred debt 2.13 These rules cover collecting debts no matter how old they are. They’re planning to look deeper into this, checking UK laws and what usually happens. 2.14 We've seen lots of cases before about old debts under the Limitation Act 1980 for England and Wales. From what we know, here’s where they stand: a. They accept the debt did exist legally b. It’s more about how they try to get the money back that can be dodgy: • It’s not right to chase a debt if the person hasn’t heard a thing from the creditor during the legally set time limit • If the creditor kept in touch before the debt got statute barred, then trying to collect might be okay • Trying to trick people about what they owe, like pretending some old debt is still enforceable, isn’t fair • If the debtor says they won’t pay because the debt's statute barred, pushing them more might count as harassment under section 40(1) of the Administration of Justice Act 1970. So yeah, just waving threats around like Cap Quest do doesn’t mean much legally.

Capquest buys up old debts and then attempt to collect on them, but often they have totally wrong details. They’ll ring your mates or people nearby claiming they’ve got a parcel or message for you. Then they try and get your personal info. I think someone else might have given my mobile number by mistake or used it wrongly somewhere because it’s linked to them, but they still expect me to cough up..... not happening. They also call from 03339 numbers, like 0333 999 7201 - caller ID shows CapQuest.
