A bunch of complete numpties from an Indian call centre!

Somebody rang claiming to be from BT, saying there’s been some trouble with my router downloading stuff. He said he wants to send me a new one, but first he needs to wipe out all the “unwanted” data that my router’s apparently picked up.

They really should bring back some proper punishment for these scam callers! We’ve got the tech to send people into space but can’t seem to track down where these annoying spammers are based to stop them. Would be great if we could just locate their office and shut it down for good. Such time-wasting pests!

This bloke has phoned me like 6 times after the initial call and just cut me off each time. He claimed he was from BT saying there was an issue with my router. Told me to switch on my computer. No proper hello or goodbye, just ended the call. Why can’t BT do something to stop these calls?

This number called me three times within a couple of hours, each time with a different person who sounded Indian. One time they claimed it was about an accident we were involved in, another time they said they were from BT. They always use English names too. Pretty clear that it's some kind of scam. Even telling them I'm on the TPS doesn't seem to stop them at all.

Got 4 calls within 2 hours from this number. First one sounded just like others saying they were from BT, so I just ended the call. Then they rang back 3 more times but no one spoke, just silence. All from the same number 01242513505. Pretty annoying!

Got a call from a UK number saying they were from BT wanting to check my router. Might be legit, but better to ring BT on their official number myself. If it turns out to be a scam, I’ll report it to Action Fraud.

I received numerous calls today from someone claiming to be delivering a new BT hub on Friday. They kept on about whether my computer was switched on so they could demonstrate the supposed issue. Then, they asked me to navigate to a certain website, which instantly rang alarm bells and made me suspicious of a scam, so I hung up. I then went to the official BT website and rang a number, but the message I got was that they had been attempting to reach me and would try again shortly. Since then, I've had more calls from the same number.

Like a few others mentioned, I got a call from a bloke with what sounded like an Asian accent on this number. The call quality was awful, which got me worried straight away so I just ended the call. They rang back a few hours later but I ignored it and have no plans to pick up if they call again.

I received a call initially claiming to be from BT, saying there was an issue with my router. Since then, I've had no less than four calls, but whenever I pick up, there’s nobody on the other end. Strangely enough, my broadband decided to go on a break for around half an hour right after that first call. Quite the coincidence, wouldn’t you say?

This number has called me four times today (Wednesday 28 September). Each time it was a different guy, all with English names but speaking with a heavy Asian accent. They kept saying they were from BT and had spotted an issue with my internet router. They said they’d sort the router out tomorrow but needed to access my computer right away. On the 27th of September, I got 7 calls from 11.30 in the morning until about 6 in the evening. The caller ID showed an international UK number 01242-513505. They said they were from BT, mentioning some issue with my router signal that was apparently picked up by my computer. When I answered the first call, I asked the guy, who spoke badly and had an Asian accent, for his BT employee ID but he quickly hung up. After that, I just blocked the rest of the calls.

I enjoy toying with them a bit. A good natter and a cuppa is always in order. Just remember, don’t comply with any of their requests. The more time they spend on the line, the higher their costs will rack up. I like to put on the act of being a hard-of-hearing elder.

Got a call this afternoon from a man with an Asian accent who said he was from BT. He claimed that every time I used the internet, there were error messages on their end and my computer was causing issues, but he could fix it if I logged on and did what he said. I told him if I ever had any internet problems, I'd ring BT myself. He sounded quite polite and said, "Alright madam, no worries," before ending the call. This bloke said his name was Edward this time (before he said John) and claimed he was with BT, saying there was an issue with my router and that I’d downloaded some rubbish files onto my computer. He offered to help me sort it out. I told him I didn’t have a router or a computer, and he just said “Oh, alright then, goodbye” and hung up. I keep getting calls from this number +44 1242 513505, which is meant to be from Gloucester. Sounds like some call centre with loads of noise in the background. Whenever I pick up and talk, they just hang up. If I stay quiet, same thing - they hang up. Tried asking who they are and what they want, but no answer, just the phone going dead. They introduce themselves with an English-sounding name but their accent gives them away. They claim to be from BT, saying they’ve spotted issues with my router. They went on about how I’ve been downloading viruses that are supposedly slowing down my computer. I decided to have a bit of fun and asked a couple of them about the weather in Bangalore; one hung up straight away, while another insisted that I must be from India - it looks like I hit the nail on the head regarding their location. It’s all rather laughable, really - such incompetent scammers! They’ve been utterly unconvincing, and I can’t fathom why they would persist with these repeated calls.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with BT saying there was an issue with my router and if I turned it on, they could fix it straight away, plus a new router would be sent on Monday. I’m not even a BT customer, so I told him what I really thought and then blocked the number so they can’t bother me again.

Got a call from someone with an Asian accent saying they were from BT and wanted to sort out my router by accessing my computer. I told them I don’t even own a computer, and they just ended the call straight away. BT really ought to shut down their account and report them to the police.

Got a call from some Asian guys saying they were from BT and my router was telling them I had loads of viruses and my PC was at risk. I told them I didn’t believe it and they just hung up. They’re trying to get you to let them remote into your computer, then they’ll ask for money to "fix" the so-called viruses. There’s nothing wrong with your computer, it’s just a scam to steal your info and card details. BT really should do more to stop this happening and help protect their customers, especially older and more vulnerable people.

Someone said they were from British Telecom. This was the third or maybe fourth time they rang me today, so I finally picked up. Told them I was tied up and then just ended the call. Honestly, this one’s proper annoying!

They rang me three times yesterday and already twice today. It's getting a bit much now! I picked up once yesterday, and they went, "Hello, how are you?" I just replied, "Sorry, I can't talk right now" and hung up.

22nd Sept, about 11:08am, got a call from a guy with an Indian accent claiming he was from B.T. How on earth did he find my number? I’m ex-directory! I shouted “Goodbye!” and slammed the phone down. This makes the fourth time I’ve received a call from one of these places since the start of September.

Had a guy with a heavy Indian accent claiming he was from BT saying my computer and router were full of viruses, second time in a couple days. I told BT about it and they just told me to report it somewhere else. Nah, BT, they’re pretending to be you lot - you should be sorting this out, not me. I’m the paying customer here!

I told him, “Go on, try touching my computer!” and that doing that would be a serious crime. Plus, I mentioned the call was being recorded. Little did he know, I’d already set my PC to max security, blocking all incoming traffic, and I’d called the police on my phone. I put the call on speaker so the officers could hear everything. Then the officer said, “Sir, this is Detective Inspector whatever,” and the bloke immediately hung up! This is definitely a scam! Very risky call - just hang up!

Some bloke phoned me and started threatening after I said “go on then, try messin wit my PC!” Told him touchin it would be a serious crime and by the way, the call’s being recorded (he had no idea I’d already set my PC security to max, so no incoming stuff gets through). I also called the police on my mobile and put the call on speaker so they could hear everything. Then a cop said, “Sir, this is DI whatever,” and the guy just hung up straight away! This is definitely a dodgy scam! Be careful and just hang up if you get a call like this!

Got a bloke on the phone with a strange accent and awful English, said his name was Jacky and claimed to be from BT. Totally sounded like a con so I told him he’s breaking the rules by cold calling and ended the call quick. Why on earth dont our phone companies block these prats?

Someone rang me saying they were from BT, saying there was a problem with my router and asked for personal info and all. I spoke to BT proper afterwards and they said they can't help with this. I'd have thought they are the ones who manage the landlines though. Can we get these fake calls sorted please?

I received a call today, and funnily enough, this same number buzzed me about three weeks ago when I was out and about. The person on the other end claimed to be from BT, mentioning there was an issue with my router. They even asked if I was at my computer. Confused and not really grasping what they were on about, I decided it was best to hang up.

Got a call from a lady with an Asian accent saying she was from BT about some issue with our wifi/router. I told her we actually use TalkTalk, and she switched, saying it was a TalkTalk line instead and blamed a bad connection. I pushed her to confirm, then told her we’re actually with BT, and if there were a problem, my work network would catch it. She then asked if I wanted help fixing it, and I just said no. She ended the call right away! Always amusing to play along with these lot.

Guy, maybe Indian, asked me how I was. I replied with 'what’s it about?' He went on about some issue with my BT router, mentioned a virus or something. I just told him 'Buzz off, you weirdo' and ended the call. That was around 13:19 today. Got another missed call at 14:30 which I didn’t pick up. I’m just gonna ignore any more calls from that number. It showed up as an international call, but with a 01242 area code.

Whenever I call BT tech support, it’s always someone Asian on the other end and then I start getting loads of calls from numbers like 01242513505. I even went and got a BT call blocking phone that screens numbers and stops dodgy calls, but seriously, wouldn’t it be better if BT had a fully British call centre where the staff were properly checked first? They should really put their customers before anything else.

Received a call not long ago. When I asked this chap, who identified himself as being from BT, about my account number-which he ought to see on his end-he flatly stated that he wasn't permitted to disclose that info! At that point, I decided to cut him off.

01242 513505 got a call from a man with an Asian accent saying he was from BT, telling me there was a problem with my router. I knew that wasnt true because the BT engineer came yesterday and set up a new one. My internet’s working perfectly, so I told him to erase my info and never call back. He then got really angry and said he’d mess with my line in a couple of hours! Wasn't a nice experience at all!

This number rings multiple times every day and never leaves any voicemail. It's getting quite annoying since it's stopping me from getting important calls. The 01242 area code is Cheltenham, but it shows up as "international" on my call log.

I had an unexpected phone call today, the 20th of September, from someone claiming to be from BY. When I pressed him for some form of verification, he just cut off the line. The chap had a distinctly Indian accent. Seems like there might be a breach of some sort within BT regarding our information!

Hello again! Just a short while has passed-about ninety minutes, to be precise-when I got another ring from this number. This time it was a woman's voice, and the moment I mentioned I'd already had a chat with someone earlier, she promptly cut the line. Quite peculiar, isn’t it?

I got a ring earlier from a bloke named John, claiming to be from British Telecom, and he had quite the accent that sounded Indian. He was trying to alert me about some technical issue with my computer. The chap insisted that I turn it on so he could instruct me on the next steps. I pretended I had already fired it up, but the truth is, I hadn’t touched it at all. He then asked me to check the control key in the bottom left corner. I reckon he caught on to my little ruse since he promptly hung up. I really do suspect it’s a bit dodgy and could very well be a scam!

Has anyone else here ever signed up for a contest and given out their address and phone number, hoping to be contacted if by chance they win? I have, and all I got was tons of annoying calls. Apparently, some firms go as far as selling your info... and believe it or not, even your own council might be involved in that. Next time you’re filling out your details for the electoral register, watch out for a box to tick if you want to keep your information private and stop it from being passed around.
