Got a call from this Sheffield number 01140885779, no clue who it is or why they’re ringing me.

I've received three calls from this number within a mere ten minutes, and each time I pick up, they just end the call. Quite baffling!

Rings for about half a minute then cuts off. Always gets 3 or 4 calls back to back.

This number has dialled me like 4 times already. Keeps telling me to renew my washing machine insurance. Also say I can get a new boiler through some government deal. Mention my vacuum insurance has expired. And throw in offers for cheap car insurance. I usually hang up after a quick word. Asked what the weather's like in India once. Sounds like a busy call centre in the background.

I got calls from this number today around 1.30pm and then again shortly after 3pm. Both times there was silence on the other end, so I just ended the call. The way the phone rang and sounded was odd, not like usual calls, so I'm fairly sure it's a scam.

I've been getting calls from this number around five times daily. I've gone ahead and blocked it, yet my phone still buzzes once, which is utterly infuriating!

Got a call from this number today, they kept insisting on speaking to my Father in Law. My wife kept asking who was on the line, and they just ended the call when she didn’t answer. Pretty suspicious if you ask me.

No name given, they keep asking if I’m Mr Marshal (which isn’t even my name). They always want to know who’s there then just hang up. Don’t ever say yes to these callers, don’t agree or disagree - just respond with questions.

Got a call from this number, and the guy asked for me by name. I didn't pick up and just kept asking who he was, but he just kept asking who I was instead. Eventually, I just told him he was a daft muppet and hung up. The number showed up as from Arbroath.

I've had a fair few calls from this number, mostly at the crack of dawn. They keep asking for me by name and then abruptly disconnect when I try to respond. When I ring back, it shows as unavailable. It's been a right nuisance, happening a staggering eight times just in the past week!

Got a call from this number at 8:47 in the morning. The guy knew my name and postcode and wanted me to confirm them. When I kept asking why and which firm he was ringing from, he just ended the call. Even when you tell these people not to ring again, they keep doing it. Why cant there be a way to block these numbers from making these kinds of calls?

Just got a call like this and when they mentioned my name and asked if it was me, I simply said yes and then asked what they wanted. After that, I ended the call. Did I mess up somehow?

Today, I received a call from an Asian gentleman who mentioned my name and postcode. I asked him to enlighten me since he appeared to be quite in the know. He then promptly disconnected the call.

Could you kindly put a stop to this number calling me? They answer the phone, but then just hang up without saying a word!

I received a call from this number not too long ago. There was a gentleman on the line, but I couldn't quite make out what he was saying, so I decided to hang up.

Got a call around 8:20 this morning, and the person kept asking if I could hear them. I just kept saying hello over and over. Seems like they want you to say YES a couple of times. Definitely a scam, feels like they’ve switched it up from the classic washing machine trick. So don't ever say YES to them, just ignore it.

I picked up and heard what seemed like typical call centre chatter in the background, then the line just dropped. Is this some trick to get folk to ring back and end up with a massive callback charge??

It's incessantly calling and driving me up the wall! A right pest of a caller, and no one ever picks up!

When they inquired about my age being over 51, it seemed a bit off, especially since they had my postcode right. Curious, I probed whether they were representing Windows, to which he replied in the affirmative. That was my cue to end the call!

Keep getting calls from this same area code. When I pick up there's usually silence or a dead line, making me think it's some sort of auto dialler or switchboard. No one says a word which feels really disrespectful, so I just hang up. If I ignore the call, it usually ends pretty much straight away, then shows up as 'incoming call', private number or 'out of area' on my phone. Loads of calls come through, all with slightly different numbers, annoying and clearly trying to get me to pick up. It's definately a scam, no doubt about it.

Got a call off an Asian guy asking me to confirm my name. When I asked what company he was calling from, he just kept saying "that's what I'm asking, are you Mrs so-and-so?" We went back and forth like that for a while. Total scam, no doubt about it!

Got the same call - Just another dodgy scammer trying to fish out your bank info. When they end the call, I normally leave the phone off the hook for like 30 minutes. I reckon it keeps them tied up and stops them from calling anyone else for a bit. Feels like a bit of payback and honestly cheers me up. And don’t worry about that annoying high-pitched noise they blast through the earpiece to make you swap it out, I just chuck the receiver under a cushion and ignore it.

Got a call today, some lady with a Chinese accent asked my nan to verify her name and postcode, then went on about her washing machine working. My nan kept asking who it was, but the woman just kept asking if she was over 51. In the end, nan told her to quit calling and slammed the phone down.

I received a call from an Asian woman who wanted to verify my name. When I inquired about her purpose, she asked if I was over 51 years old. Curious, I pressed her for details on what she was offering, and she mentioned something about my washing machine. That was enough for me-I ended the call right there. I'm wondering, what repercussions can I anticipate from this? Is there any action being taken to curb such intrusive practices?

A woman with an Asian accent called herself Ann and somehow she already knew my name and postcode. She kept asking if I was over 51 and when I said no, she asked the same question like 3 or 4 times before finally saying goodbye. I have no clue who the 'Caller(s)' might be since I said "hello" but got no reply at all. That’s just my usual way to check if it’s a real person on the line. 06 Oct 17 - Got a call around 9.30 this morning, went straight to voicemail which we had already put on before they hung up. Then they called again, twice between about 10.45 and 11.15. The number showed up as intl so we didn’t pick up.

For the past decade, I keep getting calls on my home phone meant for someone else. I’m serious, it’s been that long! No matter how many times I say they’ve got the wrong number, they don’t stop. Today, it was about a washing machine, of all things! I wish blocking them was as easy as on my mobile. I've tried all sorts of things over the years, but they still ring me :-/

They rang my home earlier today, asking for someone who doesn’t actually live here. When I told them I didn’t know the person, they just kept repeating the name. I told them again that there’s no one by that name here and they’ve got the wrong number. Then out of nowhere they shouted at me asking who they were talking to. Absolutely awful behaviour, especially in my own house - proper angry about it!

Had pretty much the same thing happen to me. A bloke with an Indian accent called my mobile, already knowing my name and postcode. He asked if I was over 51 and if I was happy with my Hotpoint washing machine. Thing is, I don’t even own a Hotpoint, but I did just buy a Bosch dishwasher recently - maybe that’s where they snagged my info from? Anyway, when I asked him who he was, what company he worked for, and how he got my number, he just went and hung up on me. Proper rude behaviour.

Got a call from an Asian guy asking if I was the right person and if he had the correct post code. I asked who he was, and he just kept repeating about the post code. When I asked again who he was, I told him I wouldn’t share any info without knowing who he was and why he was ringing. Then he just said, "Bye bye ma'am, you talk too much" and hung up on me. It was so annoying, especially as I was at work, and really quite rude.

I received a rather peculiar call today. The caller asked me to verify my name, and I promptly enquired who they were. They responded with a rather vague name and then proceeded to question me about my address. Unsurprisingly, I sought clarification on the purpose of their call, refusing to divulge any personal details. They claimed it was regarding my washing machine. The irony is that I’m actually expecting a delivery of one tomorrow! So, I asked them to elaborate, but they kept pushing for confirmation instead. I reiterated that I hadn’t verified anything, and then, to my astonishment, the line went dead. Clearly a scam. I generally avoid answering calls like these, but they tend to ring at times when my family usually reaches out. Quite the nuisance, I must say!

Received another call earlier today from an Asian gentleman inquiring whether I own a washing machine. Then he proceeded to ask if I was older than 51. I made it quite clear that I wasn’t willing to divulge any personal information. He wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I eventually hung up. The last time I spoke to him, when I declined to answer his intrusive questions, he had the audacity to tell me to "bugger off." Apparently, this is all part of some survey regarding washing machines. I find it utterly bonkers that someone would waste their day doing that!

They gave me a ring but I didn't pick up. I looked up the number on this site afterwards. From what I gathered, THIS SEEMS LIKE A SCAM I WAS WARNED ABOUT RECENTLY. They ring you up asking random stuff to get you to say 'YES' so they can record it and use your voice to back up their FRAUD. I received a call from this number, but I chose not to pick up. After a quick look-up on this site, it appears that what I’m reading is quite alarming. It seems this could be the bogus scheme I heard about recently. The callers engage you with random queries, aiming to get you to say ‘YES,’ which they then utilise to validate their deceitful practices. It’s vital to avoid simply agreeing; you might want to reply with “um, perhaps,” “I think so,” “possibly,” or something along those lines instead. These undesirables are incredibly tenacious!

Honestly, I’d recommend letting your answering machine take the calls or investing in caller ID. Just refrain from picking up, do a bit of research, and if necessary, block the number!

I received a rather peculiar phone call earlier today. A woman, who seemed to have an Asian accent, greeted me by my name-quite unsettling, I must say. She mentioned she'd found my details in the phone directory, which was a bit concerning in itself. Then she proceeded to inquire about my age, suggesting that I confirm I was over 71. It could have been 21, if I’m honest; her accent made it tricky to decipher. Naturally, I responded with a 'No', but that didn't deter her. Instead, she shifted the conversation to whether my washing machine was functioning. I queried the relevance of my age to the appliance’s status, but she didn’t provide any explanation and insisted on knowing about the washing machine again.
