On 29th May 2019, we got a call from 01223678799 claiming our blocking system was about to expire. They asked for our credit card details, but we said no. Then, last year, someone rang about our 1571 number supposedly running out, and when we again refused to give card info, that number just stopped working at our place. We actually don't use any blocking service as our daughter sorted it so incoming calls show the caller ID, so we just don't answer if the number’s unfamiliar. My husband thought it might be a cousin from Birmingham calling which is why he picked up.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with the Telephone Preference Service, asking if we were receiving marketing calls. I told her we weren’t, and that TPS doesn’t actually do calls like that. She switched tactics but it was pretty awkward since her English wasn’t great and she seemed stuck to her script. Eventually, she gave up. She rang again within 30 minutes which was really irritating, especially since we’ve got family living in Cambridge nearby.

I’ve had this number ring me a couple times today, but each time they just hang up right as my answerphone kicks in. After not getting any of these pest calls for about a week, suddenly I’ve had nearly seven from them just today. I’m knackered from constantly jumping at the phone whenever a dodgy call comes through, so now I just let it go to voicemail. If it was someone real, they’d surely leave a message, right?

I got a call from an Asian guy claiming he works for a call blocking company. He said my subscription was ending tomorrow and urged me to renew it. When I asked when I signed up, he said 1994! I told him to get lost and blocked the number straight away. He sounded pretty slick, I’m sure plenty of folks fall for this kind of nonsense. I hope something awful happens to scoundrels like him!

Another round of the old call-blocking ruse, I see. This time, they're trying to fish for my bank account info related to my debit card-not the usual 16-digit card number or the three-digit security code. They spun a tale claiming that this information was required to register for their so-called call-blocking service linked with my phone provider. They assured me that if I confirmed my identity by sharing those details, I’d enjoy an enhanced call-blocking experience. Ironically, they insisted they already had that information but were unable to disclose it due to “data protection” regulations! When I refused to budge, they threatened to cancel my registration, promising a written confirmation in three days. They started quizzing me about my Direct Debit payments and asked to check if my bank card’s expiry was from 2019. They also checked if I still used Halifax for banking and somehow knew the first part of my sort code. Then they tried to get me to confirm my full account number. They mentioned I’d receive something in the post within 5 days. I didn’t trust it at all and ended the call pretty quickly.
