At 5.41pm today, 10th February 2022, my landline got a call from the number 0121 312 4025. It's a landline from Birmingham, judging by the area code. Despite having caller ID and blocking options, the call managed to get through. I didn’t pick up, as I usually just ignore calls from numbers I don’t recognise or weren’t expecting. This is actually the second strange call I've had in a couple of days - the one before was from a different place, Leeds.

Some bloke called himself Simon, claimed to be the energy adviser for my area. He went on about how a search showed my loft insulation was outdated and that he needed to check for damp issues. Apparently it was free for people over 50, big deal. Thing is, he had no idea where I actually live, so how was he gonna know any of that? Proper cold call, no clue what he was on about.

I think I got caught up with some Simon guy pitching roof or attic insulation. He kept saying my name and that my house was on some sort of register, but I didn’t really hear what it was called. Tried to cut him off a few times but he just kept going. So I just kept asking, “What register? What register?” and then he went quiet. I told him to jog on and used my call blocker to stop him from ringing back from that number. Hopefully he won’t bother me again from that line. Proper nuisance!

I received a rather dubious call from a chap claiming to represent an energy company operating locally. Complete balderdash, considering the STD code hails from Birmingham while I reside in the Medway region of Kent. This particular number, 0121 312 4025, has inundated my home phone with calls all week long. Eventually, I picked up and firmly instructed him to take my number off their list of unsolicited calls. Clearly a bunch of crooks, so don’t hesitate to tell them where to go in no uncertain terms!

I reckon it was one of those home efficiency scams. The bloke, Alex, just couldn’t really hold a proper chat, kept going quiet for ages every time I tried asking something. When I pushed him again about which list I was supposedly on, he just cut me off. Feels like they might be using those pre-recorded bits and pieces, cos the English was pretty ropey. If I’m right, this is honestly one of the slickest scams I've run into, and I’ve dealt with heaps of dodgy calls before.

Sounds like a dodgy scam to me! They called about a “free” loft check but you just know they’re gonna try flog you stuff you don’t need for way too much money. They even said my old fibreglass insulation might be causing damp, which seemed a bit off. I asked them to stop chatting straight away, but they wouldn’t listen and then just cut me off when I said I didn’t wanna give my name. Proper fishy!

This bloke called me again, same name Alex, but now he’s swapped from pretending to be an ‘energy consultant’ to a ‘medical advisor’. He’s rang me hundreds of times before and we’ve told him where to stick it. We’ve reported him to BT and also flagged it up to gov.uk. It’s so annoying when you rely on your phone for health stuff and these muppets keep cold calling, breaking the rules.
