Someone rang up saying I’d just bought stuff from Tesco online (I’d actually just had a delivery) and said there was also a purchase at Sainsbury’s (my daughter had been shopping there earlier but definitely not using my card). They told me to press 1 to speak to “bank security” if I didn’t recognise those transactions. I didn’t press anything. The odd bit is, how did they seem to know about the Tesco order? The amount they quoted was only 51p different from what I actually spent.

I’m based in Clevedon and got a call from this number earlier today. It was a recorded message with a posh lady’s voice saying it was from my bank - although it never said which one exactly. They claimed there was a suspicious purchase under my name, a train ticket from Edinburgh to London, saying I’d never bought one like that before. The message told me to press 1 if I wanted to approve it or press 2 to get in touch with the City Police. Pretty obvious this was a scam, but I can see how it could trick someone who’s not paying attention!
