I received a call on my mobile from someone who seemed to know my name-I'm curious as to how they obtained that information! The caller alleged they were conducting a Government Health Survey regarding Covid-19 vaccinations. An approach I often employ is to inquire about the caller’s location. This chap stated he was situated on Victoria Street in London, so I pressed him for the postcode. He began to stammer something about it being SH something or other! Anyone with a sober understanding of London geography would know that such a postcode doesn't exist. To top it off, the area code for this number is 01206, which belongs to Colchester, not anywhere in London! Something feels decidedly off about this whole interaction!

I received a call from a gentleman who had a noticeable Asian accent. He mentioned the NHS and inquired if I'd received both of my vaccinations. I confirmed that I had. He proceeded to ask whether I'd experienced any side effects, to which I replied about having a bit of a fever. Then he wanted to know if I was feeling better, and I mentioned it was quite some time ago, so I was definitely back to normal now. I did mention my arm was a bit sore after the booster jab, though. He repeated his question about my health, and I assured him I was indeed fine. Next, he started rambling on about booking appointments through an app and asked whether I had insurance. I admitted I did, albeit without knowing the provider. He then prompted me to take a wild guess and reeled off a few names. I told him none of those sounded familiar, and just like that, the call ended! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I repeated that this was indeed not the NHS's concern and queried why this was even relevant to their inquiry. At that point, the caller abruptly hung up on me. I've taken the liberty of reporting this incident to Ofcom under their SPAM reporting service. Then he got to asking if I had life insurance, which I found a tad odd. I questioned why the NHS would require that info, and he claimed they could provide extra financial assistance if I did. I told him that was utter nonsense since I’m employed by the NHS myself. He then seemed undeterred and pressed me for the name of my insurance provider! I firmly stated the NHS had no business needing that information and promptly ended the call. Grr! 😡
