These guys have rung me about 8 times over the past few weeks. Most of the time, they hung up as soon as my new call blocker picked up, but twice they said their name was Ian. Knowing straight away it was a scam, I just ignored them. This is the first caller in the 2 and a half years we’ve had the phone who actually bothered to identify themselves, so I’m quite pleased about that. I’m using a BT Decor 2600 with TrueCall - honestly the best £24 I’ve spent at Currys. Finally some peace and quiet, and my wife’s chuffed too!

Had a call from someone claiming to be from Gold Star Insurance, asking about some kind of appliance protection cover and wanted to check my address. I told him I don’t have any such insurance, and he said he’d remove me from their records but needed to verify my "details" first. I told him I’d just block the number to save us both the trouble, then he just abruptly ended the call. The weird part is the bloke sounded like he was from England, so if you’re on the TPS, you might want to report them.

Honestly, this company seems pretty legit for appliance breakdown cover. Nobody made me change from my old provider, but their offer was way better so I switched. Got a call earlier from this number, someone named Tracy claiming to be from homecare about insurance for kitchen appliances. When I asked how they got my number, she insisted we must have had some kind of insurance before. Thing is, ages ago - like 20 years back - we had insurance on a washing machine under a scheme that refunded the premium if no claim was made in time. We did get that refund, and that scheme has long been discontinued. I told her the number’s on the TPS now, and she said she'd make sure it was removed from their calling list.
