Today, I've received a couple of phone calls from someone claiming to be "Chris, your local energy adviser," coming from numbers that start with 1202 143 and have different last three digits. I reside in Somerset, so I find it rather odd that they're supposedly local to Bournemouth. The one call I did pick up was about the necessity for new loft insulation, which is quite unnecessary since my home is relatively modern. I'm beginning to think this could just be a ruse to gain access to my property.

This number has been blowing up my phone nearly every day for the past three weeks. They even ring late, sometimes after 11:30pm which is just ridiculous. The caller says they’re from some green energy saving group that’s supposedly “working in my area” right now. But if you so much as question what they’re saying or show any doubt, they hang up straight away like you insulted them or something.

The caller, always going by 'Chris', claims to be the local agent for our area - which seems dodgy since he also mentions he's based in south west London, and we’re more than 200 miles from there! He goes on about some register of homes with outdated loft insulation. But the moment you ask for details about this register, he just hangs up. They keep switching up numbers within that 01202 code. Pretty obvious that it’s a scam.

Getting calls nearly every day from numbers beginning with 01202. It looks like they’ve got loads of phone numbers starting with that code. For example, yesterday it was 01202 143082 and today I got a call from 01202 143157. We’ve got a block function on our phone, and so far we’ve blacklisted around six of these numbers. The trouble started when we picked up the very first call, which I think made our number more visible to them. Besides manually blocking each new number, does anyone know a better way to put an end to this?

It appears I’m not alone in this experience with Chris, who touts himself as a local energy advisor. Curiously, he seems to pop up as a ‘local’ from anywhere throughout the UK. I’ve received calls from him in February, September, and now here we are in November. He’s also used other numbers such as 01202 159157 and 01134 027246, which seems to be connected to Leeds. If you happen to return his call, be wary, as he tries to pull a fast one, and you may end up footing the bill for the call. Don’t fall into the trap and fuel your own frustration!

I've had a similar experience. A local energy consultant reached out to me, mentioning that many residents nearby had raised concerns about dampness stemming from their loft insulation, and they were offering a complimentary survey. Despite my clear and persistent replies indicating that I wasn’t experiencing any issues with loft insulation or dampness, he continued pushing. Eventually, after me stating my disinterest multiple times, he seemed to lose patience and ended the call.

I've had the dubious pleasure of receiving a trio of calls from a chap who goes by the name of Tom, proclaiming himself an "energy adviser." Each time he rings, I've firmly instructed him to remove my number from his list. He always kicks things off by bleating on about the loft insulation that I supposedly had fitted. The thing is, I've never had any loft insulation done, which makes it quite clear that these are dodgy calls aimed at phishing for my details. I've reached out to the Telephone Preference Service, where I’m listed, but they’ve told me they can't take action unless I can provide the name of this so-called business. It's a bit absurd, considering I've already given them the number, alongside the details and timing of these pesky calls!

I received a call from someone claiming to be Chris, an Energy Adviser in my area. When I inquired about how he acquired my phone number, he mentioned it was sourced from a list of homeowners who had made improvements to their homes. I pointed out that my number is ex-directory, so it shouldn’t have been included. He abruptly cut the call without a word. This is not the first time he's rung me; I had to block a previous number he called from. I'll ensure to block this one too. Clearly, it seems suspicious. I didn't catch the bloke's name. He introduced himself as a local energy consultant and claimed that our recent loft insulation was the incorrect type, which apparently goes mouldy and must be swapped out. When I inquired about how he came by that info, he mentioned a list of homeowners who had just made upgrades to their properties. He then asked if I was the homeowner, to which I cheekily replied no, just to throw him off his game. His response? A rather polite goodbye and a wish for a lovely afternoon!

Seems we’ve uncovered the whereabouts of this dubious character! It’s rather unsurprising he’s got a rather spacious abode; all those scams must be paying off nicely for him!
