I got a recorded message saying something about a case number and my NI number, telling me to press 1 to talk to a case worker. When I did, some man who sounded Indian picked up, but I could hardly catch what he was saying. He asked me some stuff I had no clue about, and then just cut me off. today this number called my home phone at about 1:34pm. i didn’t know who it was, and when my answerphone picked up, they just hung up straight away. honestly, folks, having an answerphone is a great idea - most scammers won’t bother talking to a machine unless they’re hiding their number. it’s simple to find out where calls come from, and if someone is legit, they’ll usually leave their name, number, and the reason for calling!

Total scam alert! Someone's pretending to be HMRC and trying to scare you by saying your national insurance number will be frozen. The call seems to be spoofed from a Bristol County Court number - not a magistrates court, I believe, but maybe I’ve got that mixed up. It’s definitely not a number from the usual HMRC departments though, it’s for the Listings team at the court. Absolutely fraudsters and really nasty ones at that. Stay sharp!

Some cheeky bloke rang me up saying he was from HMRC and that I owed taxes. He even threatened court action! When I asked him which year it was about, he said 2020 - well, that was when I was furloughed, same as loads of others. I told him it’s HMRC’s job to sort out the tax stuff, not mine, and since I hadn’t had any letters through the post, he’d have to take it up in court if he wanted. I said I’d ring HMRC myself to check things out and then he just ended the call! Honestly, it’s disgusting they try to scare people like that. Hope no one gets caught out by this.
