I've just found out someone's done something dodgy with my National Insurance number. They say if I don't do anything about it, I could get into serious trouble. Sounds like a total scam to me.

They said there was some kind of case against me and that ignoring it would be breaking the law or something.

I got a dodgy phone call from someone pretending to be HMRC, with an option on the keypad to chat to an advisor. When I finally got through, they asked for my name and the reason I was calling. They started threatening me with arrest for not paying enough tax, but honestly it was hard to hear them properly. After about a minute, the call just dropped, so I have no clue what they were actually after.
