4 yearsThis is the third instance in a short span where I’ve been met with a message that seemingly appears out of thin air, completely taking control of my computer by claiming to have found malware, viruses, or today, a trojan. The first couple of times, I managed to resolve it by simply powering off and on again, along with clicking about my home screen. However, today that trick was ineffective, but thankfully I managed to sort it by hitting Ctrl+H and clearing my browsing history. The scam wanted me to dial a toll-free number, but I was naturally quite sceptical and opted not to call. It pretended to be from Windows Defender and Microsoft, yet upon further investigation here, I discovered it linked to Wavecrest. A quick search for Nottingham yielded zero results. Quite dodgy, if you ask me.
