Had a missed call earlier, then got a robo voicemail saying I had to call back right away about some supposed criminal issues. Just ignored it and deleted the message straight away.

Received a rather alarming call yesterday morning purporting to be from HMRC. The caller insisted that I must engage a solicitor to reach out to them on an alternative number, as I was allegedly embroiled in some serious legal trouble that could be rather expensive. I promptly blocked that number, but then I discovered another voicemail by mid-afternoon threatening further action against me. The voice sounded very much like a robot, and they didn’t even bother to mention my name. Naturally, I decided to look it up here and, unsurprisingly, it turned out to be a scam. When are authorities going to take decisive action against these appalling calls and bring them to justice?

Received a call that purported to be from HMRC. When I rang them back, a chap picked up and insisted he was from the tax office. However, there was a distinct lack of any proper security checks that HMRC usually employs. I suspect it’s all a ruse and could very well be dodgy. Best to keep your guard up!

20th January - HMRC Scammers

Received a call from +44 114 700 2290

The caller asserted that they required my reference number, and when I mentioned I was recording the conversation, I was met with an aggressive outburst: "Jackson, grab the gun, we're heading to this woman’s place!"

I promptly cut the conversation short and blocked the number.

The voicemail left behind was from someone claiming to be Officer Dennis Grey, urging me to ring 0161 250 3697. He ominously warned that if I didn’t comply, I should prepare for legal repercussions. This number has since been disconnected.

On January 20th, I received a call from +44 114 700 2290 claiming to be from HMRC fraud team. They asked for my reference number and left a message on my voicemail. When I said I was recording the call, someone started yelling “Jackson, grab the gun, we’re going to her place!” before abruptly hanging up. I blocked the number straight away. The voicemail was supposedly from Officer Dennis Grey, telling me to ring 0161 250 3697 or face legal trouble. That second number is no longer in service now.
