Got two calls from this number, once on the 19th and again the day before, back in 2021. It was some robotic voice warning me about a supposed case, but they didn't say what it was about. Totally feels like a scam to me, so definitely avoid ringin’ them back.

I got a call from 0114 700 1617 claiming to be HMRC, with someone named Dennis Gray on the line. They said I needed to ring them back or I’d be in serious trouble legally. Obviously, I blocked the number and reported it as a scam. Sounds like a common con trying its luck again.

I sorted out my tax return yesterday, and lo and behold, today I received a dodgy phone call from this number claiming I needed to engage a solicitor to assist me. It’s clearly yet another tax scam. I decided to give them a ring back, and they picked up spouting some nonsense about HMRC and urging me to provide personal details. I refused to divulge anything and asked where they were based instead, all while mentioning that my number has no links to any tax matters. They abruptly cut the conversation short and hung up. Quite the nerve, isn’t it?

I received a rather alarming phone call today, 19th January 2021, at precisely 10:10 in the morning. The caller claimed to be with the legal department of HM Revenue & Customs and left me a rather menacing automated voice message stating that I must return the call to 01147001617, or face potential legal repercussions. Naturally, I decided to return the call. Upon answering, I was met with someone speaking in an accent reminiscent of Indian descent who began requesting my personal details. I refused to provide any information and instead asked them to send a letter to my registered address, which, one would presume, they ought to have on file. The individual didn’t seem pleased with my responses and asserted that the HMRC legal team is fully entitled to reach out to taxpayers regarding certain inquiries. I reiterated my stance on not disclosing any personal information and insisted that I should receive written communication. At that, the caller ominously claimed that the police would be at my door shortly if I didn’t comply, and then abruptly disconnected the call. I'm left feeling quite bewildered and my instincts are telling me this could very well be a scam. I would appreciate hearing any further insights or experiences from others. Cheers!

Got another call saying they were from HMRC, telling me I need a lawyer right away and that I could be arrested soon. They claimed the caller was Dennis Grey, but honestly, the voice sounded like an American woman. Pretty terrifying stuff. Seems like they're focusing on the Southampton area now.

My mum got a call from this number, 01147001617, where the person told her she was going to be arrested, have her house taken away, and all her bank accounts frozen. They were threatening and said she had to pay about £4,000 straight away, but said if she paid £2,500 now, they could sort out the rest later. She ended up telling them her National Insurance number, address and which bank she uses, but didn’t give any bank account numbers. The caller sounded like they had an Indian accent.
