Phone number ☎️ 01147001612 👆 is reported as a persistent and well-known scam involving automated calls falsely claiming to be from HMRC, often using threatening language about legal action and debt. Many users advise not to answer or return such calls, stressing that genuine HMRC communications come through official letters or direct, personal contact rather than automated calls. These calls are particularly distressing for vulnerable individuals and the elderly. The consensus warns strongly against engagement and encourages reporting such incidents directly to HMRC’s official anti-phishing contact to help combat this fraudulent activity.

Got a call from an American bloke threatening legal stuff, which I thought I’d already blocked as my phone showed it was blocked before. Annoying it still managed to get through to my voicemail though. Lately I’ve also had some awful fake HMRC emails riddled with spelling mistakes - are the same muppets behind both? Proper rubbish!

So, I got these two voicemails from someone saying they were Officer Reed from HMRC, but it sounded totally like a recorded message. They warned me to call back or face legal trouble. Honestly, I’m pretty sure it’s a dodgy scam, so just watch out and don’t get tricked by it.

My husband’s phone got a call and voicemail, but I never bothered to listen to it. Since he’d died just a few weeks back, I rang them up to find out who it was. Some lady with quite a thick Asian accent answered and said it was HMRC. I ended the call straight away!

I discovered a reference number on the HMRC site and gave it a go-turned out they were demanding £4,998 in back income tax! It felt quite menacing, to be honest. Suddenly, the police swooped in to freeze my bank account and credit cards, which was absolutely bewildering. I requested further evidence of their claims, but then the line went completely silent on me. Now, I'm left waiting on hold with HMRC, hoping for some clarity.

Exactly like everyone else has mentioned, I received an automated call purportedly from HMRC. I just want to highlight that I’ve been in contact with HMRC numerous times throughout the years, and they certainly don’t resort to such automated messages. If they truly need to get in touch with someone, they'll arrange a personal conversation. Moreover, they tend to use phone calls only as a last resort; any potential issues would first be communicated via letters.
