Got a call from some scammers who were reading straight from their script. At one point I couldn’t help but laugh and asked, "Are you laughing at me?" They said yes and then just hung up on me. Weird experience!

I found a number linked on the HMRC site and called it - they claimed I owed £4998 in back taxes and sounded really aggressive. They said the police had frozen my bank and credit cards. Like a lot of others have said, this was an automated ring from HMRC. I’ve had plenty of dealings with them over time and honestly, they don’t do these sort of robo calls. If HMRC need a word, it’s always face-to-face. Plus, they normally send letters first before trying to call, using phone calls only as a last resort.
