I rang the number back and ended up speaking to this bloke with a strong Indian accent but a really English sounding name. I kept asking loads of questions like their postcode, the names of their managers, where exactly their office was supposed to be, and why they were using a Sheffield area code if they weren’t local. After a bit of me acting daft, they got annoyed and just snapped the phone down on me.

The message urged me to get in touch without delay-either personally or through my solicitor-threatening “consequences” if I didn’t comply. Quite alarming, really!

I received a rather alarming call today, similar to what others have mentioned. It was an automated message, supposedly from customs and excise, insisting that I contact my lawyer without delay or suffer serious repercussions. As a retired civil servant, I can easily spot a scam when I see one. This sort of threatening communication is completely unacceptable, and I advise everyone to steer clear of calling them back.

This is definitely a scam! They've been ringing me from abroad. I had three calls where they impersonated HMRC and made some alarming threats about lawyers. When I attempted to block the number and flag it as spam through my app, it popped up with a different number than the one that called me. When I returned the call, the chap on the line was stammering, struggling to explain the reason for the call. My advice is to never share any personal information. I'm quite relieved I didn't disclose my National Insurance Number, as these opportunists are clearly after your money using your NI details.

Got a voicemail from someone called ‘Dennis Gray’ saying he’s from HMRC and that I have to ring back or there’ll be legal trouble. Sounds like a total scam to me. I reckon once I mention it to my husband, he’s gonna love wasting their time, chatting with them for ages and then having a go at them for being so dodgy.

Had a missed call earlier and found a voicemail from some robotic voice claiming to be from HM Revenue & Customs. It was this “officer Dennis Gray” threatening legal trouble if I didn’t ring back. Don’t fall for it, definitely a scam! Avoid calling them back at all costs!
