Got this call from Hmre, saying they’re taking legal steps and all that. Sounded like a total scam to me.

I got a call from some automatic robo voice with this long, fancy scam about me owing tax money that’d been sent to the courts. Sounded really legit, they even moved me onto another line which looked like it was actually from HM Courts and Tribunals Service. Was about to send off £4,000 before something felt dodgy, especially when they kept pushing me to send the cash to some ‘escrow’ account they made up. Glad I held back!

When I picked up, there was nothing but silence. Could have been a wrong number, but the line stayed open, so I ended the call after a short wait.

Claimed to be James Brown, supposedly representing HMRC. Requested my National Insurance number, but I informed him that I don't possess one. He then inquired about my bank account, to which I replied that I didn't have one either. After that, he abruptly hung up!

I received a call earlier today, 9th December 2020, and unfortunately, the call dropped. However, they left a rather menacing automated message claiming to be from HMRC, warning that I could face prosecution if I failed to return their call.
