It really annoys me how they keep phoning me non stop. I already said I’m not interested and don’t have the cash, but the lady just kept going on until I said clearly, ‘without prejudice, you’re not getting it’. Then she spoke louder and slower, saying I’m not interested in life insurance or something like that. They’re getting sneaky now, using area codes near mine so you think it’s someone local. If I don’t recognise the number as a proper local landline, I just let it go to my answerphone.

Got a call from a bloke talking about loans, but he was going way too quick for me to make out the company. Told him I wasn’t interested and he ended the call nicely.

They rang me 13 times over just 2 days, even on a Sunday, so I finally picked up. The person asked me for my bank info, saying they could clear all my debts with a single payment. I started laughing since I only have one credit card and barely used it, and then the bloke told me to f#ck off! Seriously? I've blocked that number now, but they keep trying from different mobiles. Is there anything we can do to make them stop?

Got a call from someone claiming to be the 'Microsoft Office squad' saying my PC had been hacked and was being used by someone else. After telling them this wasn’t true, he said they were going to 'lock my computer'. When I said no thanks, I’m not interested, he asked to speak to my husband because ‘I didn’t get it but he would’. Then he wanted to know my age, and after I told him politely I don’t have a husband and that my age is none of his business, he snapped, ‘Oh my god, you don’t get it’. I just hung up. Felt really insulted by the whole thing.

Maybe not the nicest thing to do, but the quickest way to get these calls to stop is to pretend you're a bit 'different' when they ring. Loads of these places don't want to bother with people who seem a bit off. Just answer with a slow, daft "hello" like you’re not all there, and don’t agree to anything right away, just ask who's on the line. Then when they start with their usual nonsense about the company, really lean into the 'special' act and watch them back off.
