Somebody pretending to be BT tech support called me out of the blue!

Today, I received a phone call from a number claiming to be BT. The caller insisted that there had been attempts to hack my computer. To verify their identity, I asked them how I could be certain they were really from BT. They claimed to possess one of my account numbers. They instructed me to turn on my laptop and specifically avoid using my iPad. Their next step was for me to press the windows key and the letter "r" simultaneously. This prompt opened the team viewer. Then, I was asked to join a remote session and press "run". Unfortunately, I encountered two disconnections and nothing happened when I followed their instructions. Since I had to go out, I ended the call. However, they mentioned that they would call back on Monday.
After conducting a Google search using the phone number, I have decided not to engage with them again. Can anyone help prevent them from continuing these fraud attempts?

Today, on the 20th of October, I received two phone calls. The first call came in at 08:30, and the second call was at 11:51. I answered the first call, only to be greeted by silence on the other end. Unfortunately, I was unable to answer the second call. It is worth noting that both calls originated from the north Devon area.

One time they claimed there was an issue with my Windows, so I cheekily asked when they would be coming to fix my kitchen windows. They were proper confused by that! I got a call from this number "0058754 53041" and honestly, I don't deal with nonsense or dodgy callers. Told them straight up to speak proper English or leave me alone... that didn't help though, because then someone else came on the line. Same issue, I couldn't make sense of what they were saying at all. Eventually, I had to give them a firm and very British "get lost" and funny enough, they all seemed to get the message loud and clear!

Got a call from a number starting with 005875453041, sounded like an Asian accent and showed up as an international number. First they mentioned something about BT, then the next call was all about hackers supposedly attacking your PC. They tried to guide me through some weird process on the computer. Eventually, switched to someone speaking English who kept asking if my computer was switched on. Total scam, they’re just after your personal info. Ended up with 7 calls from this lot in just one day - proper annoying!

Had issues with my BT broadband earlier, so I told the caller I was actually at the international internet fraud office and asked her to wait a moment while I tracked their number. I made some beeping sounds like I was tracing the call, but then she just ended the call. Bit of a letdown really.
