Something very close happened to me recently. I got a call from someone named Jessica Miller, who claimed she worked for BT and gave an employee ID of 7026. She gave me a customer licence number, which was 12 characters long, and then asked me to enter three letters into a search field on my laptop. As soon as I hung up, the phone rang again from that exact same number, but I chose not to pick up. The number she called from was 0034922812551.

Got a voicemail on my home phone earlier, it was some automated message warning me about a legal case linked to tax evasion or something about tax fraud. Seemed dodgy to me.

The phone rang and the person asked if they were speaking to my husband, Mr X. As soon as my husband heard the strange accent, he just told the caller to stop bothering him. He wasn’t about to waste his own time, or even the caller’s. Guessing what scam they were after? No clue at all.

I wouldn't bother calling back any numbers beginning with 0020. They're just a pain and seem pretty risky. Best to ignore them altogether.

This number has tried ringing me two times today. On my caller ID it showed up as “international” with the same number listed. As soon as my answerphone starts, it just ends the call. I’ve gone ahead and blocked it now.

I got a call from someone claiming to be Steve Jones from BT Security, saying there was an issue with my internet. But when I asked them for a phone number to call back on, they just cut me off.

Had a call from a woman claiming to be Jessica Miller from BT, saying there was suspicious activity on my internet. She gave me a number that sounded like a BT employee ID, 7026, along with a long 12-digit customer code. When I asked for her own contact number to verify the info she’d given me, and told her I’d ring back if everything checked out, she suddenly cut the call off. Definitely a scam, no doubt about it.
