I got a call from someone claiming to be with BT, telling me my phone line was infected with a virus and that service would be shut off for a week. I decided to play along and asked for specifics about my account, but they couldn’t give me any. After messing around for a bit, I told them I’d just wasted their time and ended the call. Totally feels like a scam to me.

I had a similar call recently, some guy with an Indian accent told me he was from talk talk. He said my internet was being hacked and told me to switch on my computer. I told him to ring me back another time cos I was tied up and wanted to check with talk talk myself. When I got through, talk talk said it was a scam. So, heads up, dont ever share your details with people who call you out of the blue.

Like loads of others here, I reckon this is a proper scam and can seriously mess up your computer or even your bank details! I usually just let them chat away for a bit - they seem to believe they’ve got you trapped or something - so I’m just burning their time. Then I tell them off, calling them thieves, and end the call quick sharp.

i got a call from a woman called alice, sounded like she had an accent from abroad. she claimed to be from talk-talk, my broadband company and oddly knew my name and address. she tried saying my PC was full of viruses and malware. i just told her i wasnt buying it and ended the call.

Got a call from a woman who sounded Indian, telling me the same spiel as before. I ended the call straightaway once I caught on. She rang back later but just dropped the call, probably because she knew it was me.

I got a call from a guy named John who claimed to be from TalkTalk, warning me about internet security issues. He had quite an accent, sounded foreign. I rang up TalkTalk afterwards and they said it wasn’t their call at all. Be careful, looks like he’s trying to scam you into getting access to your computer.
