Somebody called saying they were from BT, which was dodgy since we aren’t actually with them. They went on about an internet issue with one of our gadgets. What was odd tho, is they knew our last name!

I got three calls from the same number. Missed the first two, then finally picked up the third time. The number had an 859 area code, so I checked it out and it’s from Lexington, Kentucky. The lady who answered was really polite but had a foreign accent, definitely not British. She said she was calling from British Telecom about my internet security. I told her that was funny since the area code is from Kentucky, almost 4,000 miles away from me. I asked why BT would be calling from so far away. She didn’t have much to say after that and ended the call pretty quickly.

Got a call from a woman saying she was from BT, but there was loads of noise in the background. She wanted to talk to whoever uses the internet here.

They rang me twice, first time I just heard noise in the background, second time there was complete silence. I didn’t pick up, just checked the number using 1471.

Everytime they call, they use a British sounding name, like this bloke who said his name was David. But you can tell he wasn’t actually from the UK. He tried to get me to hand over my personal info to sort out some supposed issue with my PC. I just said cheers and ended the call. No real BT rep would ask you for that kinda information, and neither would any legit company.

This afternoon around 1:45pm the phone rang and my wife picked it up as she was waiting on a call. There was silence at first, then all we could hear was some weird heavy breathing. That won't scare her one bit, they'll need a stronger ploy to get a reaction from her.

Got a call from some bloke with an American accent saying he was from Openreach. There was loads of background noise, like a busy office or something. He asked if I was the sole user of my internet connection. I didn’t really want to answer, felt off from the start. Then, as soon as I hesitated, he just cut the call. I rang the number back and got put through to a woman’s voicemail. Definitely looks like a scam to me.

Like some others mentioned, I heard loads of noise in the background. The person said they were calling from BT, so I asked them for the last two digits of my account number. They instantly said “02,” but that wasn't right at all. When I told them I knew they were fibbing, they just ended the call.

Got a call from some woman claiming to be BT, warning me about a security issue with my internet. Bit odd as I actually use Sky for my broadband. I just ended the call right away. Seriously, BT should really do something about these scammers.

Some guy said he was from BT about my internet. There was loads of background noise too. I told him I know this scam’s still going around, honestly thought it’d have stopped by now. Then he just ended the call.

I got a call earlier today from this number, a guy said he was from BT and asked why my IP address was showing as public, like anyone could access it. I could hear loads of people chatting in the background on his end. He kept going on about how there had been some foreign activity coming from my IP. I told him I wasn’t sure he was legit and that I’d hang up to call BT properly. Seemed really sus to me.

Today, on 17/12/20, this number rang me. It went straight to voicemail and when I checked the message, it was just some woman saying "hello" three times. I usually don’t pick up calls from numbers I don’t recognise. Better to be cautious.

Just got a call from someone claiming to be with BT, telling me my 'device might be infected'. They then said I had to enter a 13-digit code to fix the problem. I told them straight away it was a total scam and told them to get lost. I've gone ahead and blocked the number using BT’s 1572 service. What a load of rubbish!

Got a call earlier from this number, they said they were from BT and had something to say about my internet. I asked them who they thought was paying the bill, but they couldn’t give me a clear answer. Then they asked if I was the account owner, and when I said no, they just told me to ‘f##k off’ and hung up straight away!

somebody called pretending to be from bt, even though i dont have any broadband with them! i told him, so your purpose of ringing me is just to scam me out of my cash? he got really rude and started swearing loads. i could hear other voices chatting behind him too. watch out for these tricksters!

Got a call from someone saying they were with BT and that my network wasn’t secure. They wanted me to log on to my computer, but I told them I’d ring back later as I wasn’t sure. Most of my computer stuff runs through my workplace’s firewall and servers, so it seemed a bit iffy to me. After reading some of the other comments here, I’m pretty sure it’s a scam.

I set up my voicemail for calls coming from abroad, but as soon as my message began playing, they just hung up on me.

someone called saying they were from my broadband provider, told me my connection wasn’t safe and they could sort it out for me. I wasn’t having any of it and ended the call. total scam, no doubt.
