9 yearsYesterday I got a phone call from a bloke named Michael James claiming to be from Microsoft. He said someone was misusing my licence number and told me to turn on my computer so he could guide me through fixing it. I wasn’t having any of it and said no. He said he’d ring back, and when he did, I told him straight to drop it. Later, I got a call from a company saying they were working with BT, but I ended the call immediately. They've been trying non-stop - I’ve had like five calls since then. I just let the phone ring out now because I’m not sure how to block them.Michael JamesMicrosoftBT10 yearsJust got a call from someone called James Smith claiming to be from BT, saying my internet was involved in some illegal stuff. It took a while to understand him properly cause his English was awful. I've had loads of calls from this guy before. I honestly think these calls are pretty dodgy and worrying. After all the complaints people have made, it's strange nothing’s been done yet. I’m definitely thinking about switching to another provider now.James SmithBT10 yearsGot a call from someone named Wilson, no first name given, saying he was with BT tech support. The bloke spoke with a strong Indian accent and sounded quite pushy. He asked if there was a man at home he could talk to instead of me. Then he started ranting about my internet being cut off, getting a bit hostile when I said I’d just checked my antivirus and didn’t see any issues. He insisted I wasn’t looking properly, claimed he was definitely from BT, and said he’d ring back later when a bloke was available to chat.WilsonBT10 yearsI got a call on my landline from a man speaking with a heavy African or Indian accent that was pretty hard to catch. He said he was from the BT Help Desk. I ended the call and tried ringing the number back, but it wasn’t a valid number at all.BT Helpdesk10 yearsJust like a lot of others, I got a call from someone speaking in a strong Indian accent saying he was from BT. He said they were going to cut off my internet because of some issues they’d noticed. I knew it was dodgy so I told him to carry on and disconnect it. Total scam, no doubt about it.BT10 yearsI ignored the call since the number looked strange and unfamiliar. When I checked the voicemail later, there was just silence with some background noise like a busy call centre, but no one actually talked.10 yearsI received a call from this rather suspicious number, but I chose not to answer, as I’m not one for picking up on unfamiliar digits. They did leave a voicemail, although it was just a jumble of call centre chatter with no one actually speaking. Quite odd, really!10 yearsA chap from India just rang me up claiming my computer would be shutting down today. I had to inform him that I don’t actually own one!India10 yearsSome bloke from India called up telling me my BT internet was infected with a virus or something. I told him I don’t even use BT, and honestly, he’s the real virus here. I told him to stop calling me, and he just dropped the call after that.BT10 yearsSo this bloke calling himself John Smith, claiming he’s from the BT virus team over in India, rings me up. Starts banging on about issues with my Windows PC and my BT line being infected with a virus. I just told him straight up, "Mate, I don’t even own a Windows computer, nor do I have a BT phone line." Told him to jog on!John SmithBTIndia10 yearsGot a call from someone saying they're with BT, but the bloke had a strong Indian accent and said his name was "Ron Miller". When I asked for his number, he just cut the call. It's awful how some folks try to pull these tricks.BTRon Miller10 yearsThis number’s definitely a fraud.10 yearsGot a call from a bloke with an Indian accent who said he worked for BT and gave some ref number like D/84426 for proof. I told him straight up I wasn’t buying it. When I said I was about to hang up, he threatened my internet would be cut off in 15 mins. I told him fine, do what you want, I’d stop paying anyway, but I still doubted he was really from BT. Then he said his name was James Wilson - I was like, nah, don’t think you sound like one.BTJames Wilson10 yearsGot a call from this number claiming to be from BT’s tech team about some problem with my broadband. I told them it was nonsense, my internet’s working perfectly fine. Then they asked me to download something that’d supposedly fix the issue and grab my personal info - no way, not happening. Seriously, when will these scams end?BT10 yearsI got a call from someone saying they were with BT’s tech support. I pretended to go along for a bit just to see what they were after. They asked me to log into [#]btinternet12[###] and get a file downloaded. Surely most people won’t be daft enough to actually do that? I called their bluff and the person just ended the call. Not sure if their aim was to get remote access to my computer or to infect it with malware, but either way BT would never ask customers to do something like that.BT10 yearsSo this guy, sounded like he was in a busy place, called me saying he was from BT tech support. He told me there was some problem with my internet that popped up a couple of weeks ago. When I asked if he knew my account info, he just snapped back asking why he’d need that. Really cheeky! Then he tried to get me to read off some weird code from my PC, told me to press random buttons. When I said the info he had didn’t match mine, he started swearing and just hung up. I’m pretty savvy with tech, but I worry about folks who aren’t - this scam could catch them out easily.BT10 yearsSome bloke with an Indian accent claiming to be from BT rang me saying there was trouble with my internet gadgets. He asked me to sit in front of my ‘device’ and check if the CTRL key was on the bottom left. I said I was using an iPad, and then he just cut me off. Proper knobhead!BT10 yearsI’m with BT and my mum got a call today from this number. The person claimed to be from BT and told her there were corrupt files on her PC. When she asked for a callback number so she could ring back, he just refused and said he’d call again later. Totally a scam. BT’s name is used loads by these fraudsters because it sounds trustworthy.BT10 yearsI just received a rather amusing phone call. It started off with an extended silence, and when the chap finally spoke, his pace was so lethargic that I thought I'd best hold on for a moment - just in case it was some urgent message concerning a family member from the hospital. He introduced himself as the intriguingly generic 'John Smith' and claimed to be representing the 'BT Technical Department' - as if such a straightforward division would even exist within BT! I didn’t allow him to ramble on any further, but I can only imagine the nonsense he would have tried to spin. 001179.John SmithBT Technical DepartmentBT10 yearsI received a rather dubious call from a gentleman with an Indian accent, claiming he was from BT. He informed me that my broadband was generating error messages and that if the issue wasn't rectified, my service could be cut off within a day. He insisted I turn on my computer to address the problem, but I outright refused. Then, he proceeded to provide me with a number, 1213181258, for the BT technical department so I could verify his identity. When I pointed out that the number was incomplete, he suggested I add a zero at the beginning. As a result, I called 01213181258, only to be greeted once more by another Indian-accented voice, who also claimed to be from BT Technical. Naturally, I became increasingly sceptical about the entire situation.BTBT Technical10 yearsHad an odd call from someone saying he worked for BT, but it was obvious he wasn’t legit. Rang my elderly grandparents a few times, telling them their wifi had a virus or something. Proper dodgy stuff like that really shouldn’t be going on nowadays.BT10 yearsI had a bloke on the phone calling himself James Wilson, said he was ringing from BT. Like the rest of these lot, he said my internet was about to be cut off because they found some kind of virus. Clearly not BT! Told him exactly what I thought, and warned him if he bothered me again, he'd regret it for a long time.James WilsonBT10 yearsI got a call from a bloke claiming to be James Wilson, said he was from British Telecom's technical team. He started going on about some info they’d supposedly got from my internet and that they were going to cut me off because of it. If he really was James Wilson, then I’m a Dutchman, because the guy spoke with a thick South Asian accent. I told him I wasn’t having any of it, sounded like a right con, and I just hung up straight away.James WilsonTechnical Department of British Telecom10 yearsGot a call from this number earlier today. The guy said he was John Smith, from BT’s tech team, telling me my internet had a virus and if I didn’t let him on my pc, BT might cut off my connection. Didn’t let him on, asked for a number to ring him back on. Unsurprisingly he couldn’t give me one. Then I asked for BT’s customer service contact and after many times asking (long enough for me to google it myself), he finally gave me the usual 0800 800 154 number. I rang BT myself and they said they never make calls like that. So just a heads up, this is definitely a scam.John SmithBT10 yearsGot a call from someone claiming to be from 'British Telecom', saying my gadgets were full of viruses from dodgy connections. I chatted with the first bloke for quite some time, then he put me through to his supervisor who started giving me instructions. I followed all the steps until he asked me to do something really sketchy to my laptop. That’s when I decided to blow a loud whistle down the phone, hopefully gave him a shock! If you’ve got a bit of tech savvy and some free time, these calls can be pretty entertaining.British Telecom10 yearsThis number rang me back in May but I just let it go to voicemail.
