Got a call on a bright Saturday afternoon, answered with a quiet 'hello?' and then the line just went silent.

Got a call around 5.29pm and couldn’t pick up so let the voicemail take it. I then dialled 1471 to check the number and to my surprise, the recording told me to hang up. Never had that happen before, seems dodgy so I’m pretty sure it’s a scam.

The bloke on the other end had a thick Indian or Pakistani accent and claimed his name was “John” - bit of a laugh that. He started going on about my boiler or heating system, asking if it was about five years old. I told him to do one and have since blocked the number. These kinds of calls aren’t just annoying, they’ve got a really dodgy vibe to them.

Anything that begins with 00 is pretty much gotta be a scam, especially when there’s an extra digit in the number too. Definitely dodgy!
