About three weeks back, right after I put in my visa application for Canada through some ad on Yahoo news, I got a call. The ad was something like "Canada wants Croatians!" The woman on the phone started asking me about my qualifications, saying my profession was in short supply there. Then she said I had to cough up $1000 straight away for the visa and asked if I had the money ready. I told her no because I wasn’t convinced it was legit. Glad now I trusted my instincts, it was clearly a scam!

Had a ring from this number earlier today. Missed it the first time, but then they called again and I picked up since it showed a New York number. I thought it might be a mate from there, but nope, same deal as others have said... asking if I wanted to move to Canada, then wanting to do some ‘assessment’ and asking for my credit card details. As soon as I said no, they started getting quite pushy. When I questioned why a New York number was used for a Canada assessment, they said their head office was in New York. After I kept refusing to give info, they told me I’d be flagged as uncooperative and barred from applying in the future, then just hung up. Felt really sketchy!

So I got a call from this number after trying to do some sort of assessment for Canada. The person on the line introduced herself as Jasmine Johnson and said she was calling from Canada. But when I asked why the number showed up as New York, she told me that Canada and the US share the same country code, which kinda made me hesitate. She even gave me an application number, 157731288, and claimed I passed the assessment. Towards the end of the call, she said I had to pay the assessment fee and asked for my credit card details. Thankfully, I don’t have a credit card. Then she asked for my bank account number, but since I don’t have a debit card on it, she told me to get one and said she’d phone me again. I looked up the number afterwards and found loads of warnings saying it’s a scam.
