About three weeks back, I received a rather strange phone call shortly after I submitted my visa application for Canada, which I had seen advertised on a Yahoo news page. The ad read something to the effect of “Croatians, Canada is calling!” During the call, the person quizzed me about my educational background and pointed out that my profession was in short supply. They insisted I needed to cough up a grand-$1000-for the visa. When they asked if I could hand over that amount on the spot, I immediately replied in the negative, as I wasn't convinced by their claims. Thankfully, I've now realised that it was nothing more than a scam!

I received a call from them too, trying to gauge my interest in relocating to Canada. The chat started off quite nicely, but towards the end, the chap began asking for my credit card details. That raised my suspicions, naturally, since any fees related to a visa application should be channeled through an official courier or a reputable bank, right?
