Got a ring from a number I didn't recognise, picked up since I’m with the cops and sometimes calls from mates on the force show up as “no caller ID” or “unknown.” Said hello, waited a few seconds and then they just hung up. I checked with my phone company and they told me this number, along with ones like 99999999999, is actually a spoofed number. The caller’s messed around with the network's Caller Display to mask their real number and dodge call blockers. Just don't answer calls that show up as repeated digits - they’re obviously up to no good.

Earlier this afternoon I picked up a call from this number and a woman with a foreign accent started telling me all about my personal info like my address and phone number, even mentioned I’m retired. When I asked how she got all that, she mumbled something I couldn’t catch properly. She then said she had a quick 30-second survey for me. I made it clear I didn’t want to answer any questions, but she kept going anyway. So I interrupted her, said “your 30 seconds are up,” thanked her politely, and hung up.
