The transcript I received was as follows: "I need to rectify the situation immediately. It is necessary to return my call promptly once you receive this message. Please dial the toll-free number 1-966-978-4774." I have taken the necessary action by adding the number to the block list.

As echoed by others, this is a fraudulent number that should not be answered.

This appears to be a fraudulent scheme. It seems that the individuals involved may be from India, as when I inquired if they were Indian, they claimed to be from Pakistan instead. This raises suspicion, so it is advisable to avoid any involvement with them.

Right from the beginning, I was aware that it was a scam. Nevertheless, they persist in calling me three or four times on a daily basis. What measures can I take to put a stop to this incessant contact?

I too received a phone call from that number and the voicemail was playing. Before this, I got a call from another number: 1-305-515-8349, same thing - an IRS Lawsuit. Initially, I was extremely worried, but thanks to those who shared their experiences, I now know it's the same scam they're attempting.

I recently encountered a distressing situation where a group of Indian men attempted to extort money from me, threatening to have me arrested if I did not pay them a hefty sum of 3,000. To add insult to injury, they also verbally harassed me during our conversation and promptly hung up on me when I confronted them about their unacceptable behavior.

Oh my goodness, I totally understand! I couldn't help but burst into tears as well. I feel incredibly foolish.

Two days earlier, I reported the original number to the IRS as they had attempted to scam me. After verifying through a Google search that it was indeed a scam. While the IRS may apprehend individuals who commit tax fraud (which I haven't), they would never resort to threatening arrest through a text message simply because one failed to return their call promptly.

Beware of Scams! Today, I received an unwelcome phone call from the number 1-866-978-4774. This call resembled the infamous scam that many others have fallen victim to. Naturally, my immediate response was a resounding "no." Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to call the number back. The person on the other end mentioned something about the IRS and criminal activity. Alert and innocent as I am, I insisted that I had no involvement in any misdeeds. Seeking clarity, I asked for his identity and he claimed to be Officer So-and-So from the IRS. However, due to his strong Indian accent, which made understanding difficult, I politely requested to speak with someone fluent in English. Shockingly, he responded with a rude expletive. At that point, I realized how inappropriate this interaction was and promptly informed him to cease all further communication before terminating the call.

Transcript from a voicemail: "We have discovered misconduct on your taxes, which you have been keeping hidden from the federal government. This issue needs to be addressed without delay. Please return our call as soon as possible. You can reach us on our toll-free number: 1-866-978-4774. I will repeat the number again for your convenience: 1-866-978-4774. Thank you."

On the 7th of September 2017, I received a voice message instructing me to call back urgently regarding an IRS issue. However, I'm aware that the IRS usually contacts individuals through regular mail rather than making urgent phone calls. It's clear to me that this is a scam attempt!

I received two phone calls this morning. The caller used a recorded message and claimed to be an officer investigating fraudulent activities on my tax records. When I called back, the voicemail box was already full, and I couldn't leave a message. After the second call from the automated officer, I dialed the number again, and this time a real person answered as the IRS. However, he abruptly hung up after coughing. I tried calling again, but there was no answer, and the voicemail box remained full. Frustrated, I decided to search the number on Google, and that's when I found this information. I am grateful for the help.

On the 7th of July 2017, I recently received a pre-recorded message from this particular number. In the recording, a man's voice simply provided the number without any further information. Out of curiosity, I decided to return the call. A gentleman named Mark Stevens from the United States Office of Financial Affairs answered and inquired about how I had received their initial call - whether it was on my home or cell phone. At this moment, I politely terminated the conversation and promptly ended the call.

Indeed, this specific number is commonly associated with fraudulent activities. They usually attempt to deceive individuals by sending automated messages alleging the detection of tax fraud. However, it is important to note that the IRS would not engage in such practices. They would certainly not contact you via phone and use pre-recorded messages in cases of genuine tax-related issues.

I have encountered two instances where this particular number contacted me. The recorded message claimed I was withholding tax information. In response, I opted to utilize the call blocking functionality on my iPhone and added the aforementioned number to the DNC (Do Not Call) Registry.
