Absolutely rubbish, this is a total con. The tax office NEVER phones people, they only send official letters through the post. It's a classic dodgy scam, probably some dodgy lot trying to take advantage. I kept calling them back and every time I told them it was fraud they just either dropped the call or started shouting swear words before hanging up. This is the message I got word for word:

"Avoiding the federal agency must be sorted right away so get back to this number as soon as you hear this voicemail. Call the free number 1-966-978-4774."

I've gone ahead and blocked the number now.

I got a call from some guy who sounded like he was from India. When I asked if he was Indian, he said no, he’s from Pak*stan instead. Honestly, it seemed shady to me, so my advice is just to avoid these calls altogether. Definitely feels like a scam to me.

Right from the beginning I had a feeling it was some kind of scam. Yet, I get calls from them like 3 or 4 times every single day. Does anyone know how I can make them stop?

This number called me too, but when I answered, it was just some recorded message... Before that, a different one rang me: 1-305-515-8349, about the same thing... Something about an IRS lawsuit or whatever. I was really stressed out at first, but after reading what others said here, I realised it’s just the same old scam they’re running... Thanks to everyone sharing their stories!

Some guys from India called me up, saying they’d arrest me if I didn’t cough up 3,000. They kept shouting at me and when I told them to stop their nonsense, they just hung up on me. Proper annoying!

This number rang me but I didn't pick up, they left a message though. Right away I googled the digits and found this site. Total scam alert!!! Never pick up if this number calls you.

Got a text from a different number saying I had to ring this number or they’d come after me with an arrest warrant. Funny thing is, just a couple days earlier I’d already reported that other number to the IRS since I figured it was a scam after looking it up on Google. I know the IRS will arrest folks for real tax fraud (which I’m definitely not guilty of), but they wouldn’t just send a text threatening arrest because you didn’t pick up a call straightaway. Seems all a bit dodgy to me.

Total scam alert. Today I got a call from 1-866-978-4774, with that same robotic message loads of people have reported. I thought, no way am I falling for this. So, I rang them back and some bloke starts going on about IRS issues and criminal charges. I told him I’m not involved in anything dodgy. Then he says he needs to check my records. I asked for his name, and he claimed to be an IRS officer or something. Since he had a thick Indian accent, I asked if I could speak to someone who actually spoke English properly. His response? "Oh, f*** off". Seriously, I was stunned. I told him to stop calling me and ended the call. Ridiculous!

I've had calls just like this a couple times lately, from a few different numbers. The person on the line said they were from the IRS and threatened me with arrest if I didn’t pay up. The bloke spoke with a strong East Indian accent too. It’s madness how brazen they are!

So yesterday, I got two calls from the same number and a couple of messages left. I rang back straight away, knowing right off it was a scam. Told the bloke on the phone that and said I was gonna report him. He just hung up. Then I kept ringing back, he kept hanging up too, so I figured why not pass the time and mess with him a bit. Honestly, no better way to unwind after work. After about 90 minutes of this, I ended up having him admit he was a liar and a total dodgy character - can’t say I disagreed! Then he tried switching things up by putting a woman on the line, pretending to be from the tax office. Nearly had me in stitches, it was like a proper comedy show! Total muppet.

Got a voicemail claiming there’s some problem with my taxes and that I’m supposedly hiding info from the government. They kept saying I need to sort it out right away and gave a freephone number to ring back - 1-866-978-4774. Honestly sounded like one of those scam calls, so I didn’t bother calling back. Sounds dodgy to me!

So I got this call and it kept dropping out with no voicemail left. The guy on the line claimed the call was being recorded, to which I just said, fine! Then I asked him to give me his operator ID again, and he said something like IRS2614 agent. Apparently they've been trying to contact me about some massive overdue tax debt. I told him that was pure rubbish! He warned me I was being recorded, and I replied, brilliant! Then I pressed him for a real name and why he was bothering me with this nonsense. He insisted it was an urgent issue from the courthouse. I told him good luck remembering that name, as he suddenly put me on hold but you could tell he was faking static to cover for not hearing me. I said "no, you can hear me fine!" It was all so fake. Then he just hung up. Honestly, whoever runs their telemarketing team is in for a telling off for such a sloppy job. Absolute muppets!

On 7th Sept 2017, I got some voicemails telling me to ring back about a serious IRS issue. But I’m pretty sure the IRS doesn’t do urgent calls like that, they always send letters through the post. Total scam in my opinion!

Got two calls this morning from a recorded voice saying they were an officer looking into some fraud on my tax returns. I tried ringing back but got a voicemail that was completely full. After the second call, I phoned again and a bloke answered, claiming to be from the IRS, but then he coughed and just hung up on me. Tried once more but no one picked up, and the voicemail was still full. I googled the number after that and ended up here. Cheers for the info!

7th July 2017 - Got a voicemail from this number, it was just a bloke saying the number itself. I rang back and a man picked up claiming to be Mark Stevens from the US Financial Office. He asked if they’d called me on my mobile or landline. I ended the call there, told him I was going to hang up and then actually did.

Cant believe how persistent this caller was! They said they were from some tax office and accused us of tax fraud, saying we owed money. They left a callback number, repeating it super slowly twice, then just hung up on us. A few hours later, they rang again, telling us to get back to them within 2 hours or it was a big emergency. What a load of rubbish! Proper annoying!

I've seen this number pop up a lot with scams. They leave automated voicemails saying there's some issue with your taxes, like fraud or something. But honestly, the IRS doesn't get in touch with you like that - no recordings or anything. It's definitely a fake call trying to scare you.

Got a couple of calls from this number. The recorded message claimed I was avoiding tax stuff. Ended up blocking the number using my iPhone and added it to the DNC list.
