I’ve encountered a right dodgy Microsoft tech scam. A chap with an accent that sounded distinctly Indian rang me up, insisting he was a bona fide Microsoft technician. He then guided me through the all-too-familiar steps of a scam. It all began when a popup appeared on my screen, claiming my computer had been locked due to using a pirated version of Windows and that Microsoft had intervened. Quite ridiculous, really! To get rid of that pesky popup, I just opened up the task manager and shut my browser down. Easy peasy!
