2 yearsQuite alarming and rather threatening, to be honest.3 yearsOn 12th February 2024, I got a pop-up on my laptop saying "Windows Defender Security Center. Your PC has been locked for security reasons. Get in touch with Windows Support. Don’t turn off your computer." Thinking it was legit, I tried reaching out to Microsoft’s tech help using the number provided. The people on the line sounded Indian and honestly, it was really hard to follow what they were saying. Believing it was genuine support, I let them access my laptop. Turns out it was just a scam. I had to remove some software that was planted there by a guy who called himself Eric Sermon, with the number 1-844-919-1039 ext: 1138. Later I noticed a charge of $99.95 from Reliable Tech Resource. The next day I reported the fraud to my bank to get the charge reversed and cancelled my card. Also, I’m now changing all my passwords and setting up two-factor authentication wherever I can. What a pain!Windows Defender Security CenterMicrosoftTech Eric SermonReliable Tech Resource3 yearsMy dad's computer froze and a weird message showed this number. He rang them, and they said they were from Microsoft and sorted his PC out, but only after taking $250 off him. It's obviously a scam. Going to contact the bank to dispute the payment, and maybe report it to the police, though not sure if that will help much.Microsoft3 yearsWatch out, this phone number is trying to scam you with fake claims about a virus on your PC. They’re just con artists looking to trick you. Don’t trust them!3 yearsThis morning, when I tried to use my laptop, it suddenly locked up and a message popped up claiming my computer was blocked due to illegal activity. It said I had to get in touch with Microsoft tech support to sort it out. I thought it was legit, so I let them have access to my computer. Later on, I found out it was a complete scam. I've already paid almost £80 for two pieces of security software they supposedly installed: network firewall and network security. Does anyone know what I can do now to stop things getting worse? I’m really worried about the whole situation.Microsoft3 yearsI got calls from two different numbers but only returned the call to the one starting with 833, specifically 8335011793. Can you check the reports I sent earlier for both of those numbers and get back to me? Would really appreciate it!3 yearsDid you realise you might have fell victim to a scam and some dosh was taken from your bank account?3 yearsI got scammed bigtime by someone using this number, losing loads of money from my bank account.3 yearsI got a call from this number and it turned out to be part of a scam where they somehow managed to take thousands straight outta my bank account. Quite shocking how they pull it off!3 yearsSomeone called claiming to be from Microsoft support. They said they fixed my computer by accessing it remotely and charged me £149. Since I didn’t have that much money in my account, they knocked off £30 and took £119 instead. This was on Friday, 2nd March. Now, five days later (today’s 7th March 2023), they’re asking to get back on my computer, saying they need to check that their settings are still working properly. I’m refusing to let them in again because they can’t give me the password we supposedly set up. They’re telling me some foreign hacker has got into my machine, but frankly, I think they might be the real threat here.Microsoft4 years1-844-919-1039 My computer suddenly locked up, and this phone number showed up with a message to contact them as if they were from Microsoft. After I got my computer unlocked, they charged me $349 for what they said was a two-year service plan. Just today (6th March 2023), someone rang me saying the computer was too old and they were going to refund me $149, but only if I completed some return paperwork. I got suspicious and asked why I’d need to fill out a form when they already have my details. The person dodged the question and when I wondered why he was calling from a different number, he claimed that one office deals with repairs and another handles payments. I didn’t agree to complete the form and told him my PC is used for a law enforcement agency. He then quickly ended the call. McAfee4 yearsThis company claims to offer computer support and says they’re based in Santa Clara, CA. But when I called, the “agents” gave me what they said were their personal numbers: (253) 750-7448, which is from Washington, and (213) 318-3202 from California. They also used (844) 919-1039, supposedly linked to Santa Clara (408 area). What really made me suspicious was that everyone on the call spoke with a strong Indian accent, used Indian languages in the background, yet gave out English names like Arthur Williams at the Washington number and Steve Wilson at the California one. They mentioned they resell Safetee.com along with tech support. Anyone checked them out? Feels off to me.Santa ClaraCAWashington StateCalifornia StateArthur WilliamsSteve WilsonSafetee. comSubmit Your Own Report (0844 919 1039)
