I keep getting calls from CBV Collections, like around ten times every morning before 8 o’clock. They don’t leave any message or explain why they’re ringing. It’s really frustrating!

This morning I rang this number and got through to CBV Collection. Apparently, they have branches in Burnaby, B.C, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Laval in Quebec. The BC branch is a licensed debt collector but has also come under scrutiny for some of their methods. They seem to call using loads of different phone numbers too.

They keep ringing my phone nonstop! I even explained that the person they're after doesn't live here at all, but they just won't stop.

Honestly, they usually won’t ring you right when your account first falls into arrears, which is normally about 6 months after missing payments. Instead, you’ll start getting calls when the original company can’t get their money and ends up selling the debt to a collections firm - this can happen anywhere from 7 to 10 years down the line. Then if you manage to speak with customer service at the original company, they often just tell you there’s nothing they can do about the calls and that they’ll stop once you’ve settled the bill. Personally, I never give any cash to the collection agencies. I always pay the original company directly, so the collectors can’t add on extra fees, interest, or take a cut.
