My niece got a call from these scammers in Riverside, California. They only knew her first initial, not her full name. Honestly, it felt like they were just trying to fish out some personal info. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.

They rang my mum first and she got in touch with me saying they wanted to speak about me. She passed on a reference number for me to use. I called back the private number, and at first they claimed it was about a legal issue. Then I got annoyed because they began mumbling about my National Insurance number, so I just ended the call. Barely two minutes after, the same number called me again repeating all the same threats. I haven’t had that account in over a decade. They were threatening to take money from my wages and place liens on everything. I told them flat out they had no right to do that. I did have a US Cellular account once, but that was ages ago and it’s been cleared off my credit record. My ex settled that debt with the collectors a long time back.

I got a call from Walker & Sond claiming I owed money to US Cellular from over a decade ago, which is totally untrue. They kept pushing to set up a payment plan or else they’d take me to court, garnish my wages, freeze my bank accounts, or even put a lien on my home. They said they’d already sent me a letter that I never received, and since I didn’t respond within 30 days, they were now going ahead with legal action. When I asked for proof of the debt, which credit agency it's listed with, and where they got my details from, they flat out refused to provide any evidence. They only offered a chance to settle the alleged debt. I declined, and then they warned me I’d be getting court papers within 10 days. After that, I contacted US Cellular and all the major credit bureaus, and none had any info on this supposed debt or account. This feels like a scam to me. My advice: don’t hand over your details and always double-check before dealing with any debt collectors.
