I just turned off my computer for a bit and then ran a scan with Windows Defender. It didn’t find any malware or anything suspicious. Honestly, I’m clueless about what this was trying to do, but it doesn’t look like it did any damage. Sounds like they wanted to scare me into thinking my PC was infected so I’d pay them to fix it. Not happening, no way!

I found this site through a link on Yahoo while I was at the library. Using it really stopped me from dialling a dodgy number. I was under the impression "Homeland Security" was meant to protect us, not chase folks down for "Microsoft" or some kinda "American" cause.

I was on my laptop when suddenly a pop-up claimed to be from Microsoft, saying my PC was locked and I had to ring the number shown right away. Curious, I dialled it and a woman with a strong foreign accent answered - background noise made it sound like a busy call centre. She asked what I was doing when the warning popped up, and I explained I was simply browsing E-cards. I also asked if the alert was genuine or just a trick to get me to buy something. After that, she seemed thrown off and there was a pause, like I’d been put on hold. I ended the call and ran my antivirus and CC Cleaner, unsurprisingly finding no issues. I’m going to block this number just in case they try again.

I received a message warning me my PC was infected and to ring this number, so I did. The guy on the line had a strange accent and kept dodging my question about whether he was actually from Microsoft. He handed me a different number to check if he was legit, but when I phoned that one, the person sounded just like him. Watch out, this might be a proper scam.

My laptop suddenly blared out a warning saying I was under attack and Microsoft needed me to ring a certain number immediately to prevent it. There was this guy’s voice coming through the speakers alongside a really loud alert sound. I dialled the number and a foreign-sounding man picked up, insisting only they could clear the issue and began asking about my computer. When I tried to ask him some things back, he got pretty rude and said my nearby shop wouldn’t be able to help. So I just ended the call.
