This number has called me a few times, and right away it felt a bit dodgy, even if the person speaking was quite formal and polite. Trust your instincts with these sorts of calls because they can come off as really helpful, which is kind of unusual for scam callers.

So this number +1 (844) 308-6045 rang me the other day and the person on the other end started asking for my name, where I live, and even my birthday. Since I’m new around here and not too clear on how things work, I ended up giving the info they wanted. Later on, my friends told me those calls are a scam, and now I’m really anxious about what I might have shared...

They kept ringing me up, saying they were from BMO. This time, I told them I was with the "Metro Police"... and they just cut the call! Pretty sure they won’t be trying to contact me anymore!

This bloke said he was from Sentel or Centel (not sure on the spelling) and was pushing some quarterly credit reports with identity protection stuff. Claimed BMO had given them my number. When I told him I’m on the do not call list and this was breaking the rules, he just kept repeating the same story. He only had my first name, nothing else.
He kept trying to convince me why I’d want it and made it sound proper legit, but it was way too scripted, like talking to a robot. I know BMO never shares info with outside companies like that.

I’ve reported the call to BMO’s fraud team and am keeping an eye on my accounts now just in case.

Proper scammers, honestly. Easy to see how some people could get caught out by this.

This is way worse than a simple scam. They’re doing some dodgy third-party sales pitches without permission. This definitely breaks CASL rules. I’m about to file a complaint with the CRTC.

Just got a call from 844-308-6045 saying they were from Bank of Montreal. They started asking me all sorts of stuff about my ID, claiming they were checking my account and credit card security. Honestly, do they think I’m daft? I immediately hung up and looked up BMO’s real number to double-check - turns out this was a scam. What a load of rubbish, complete idiots! Don’t fall for it, folks!

This number rings me a couple of times each day but I usually just let it go to voicemail. After reading all this, I might actually pick up once just to have a bit of fun with them, even though I doubt they’ll quit calling anytime soon. If it keeps up, I’ll just end up blocking it. It worries me if anyone’s been tricked out of money by these calls. If you’re ever unsure whether a call is genuine, don’t hand over any details. Instead, look up the company’s official number yourself from their real website and phone them directly. Don’t trust any website link the caller gives you. The company won’t mind calling you back once you’ve checked things out properly.

Definitely a bank scam. I reached out to BMO and they tried calling the number themselves, but it went straight to an answering machine that said something about "Canada Direct". Legit banks will never ring you up asking for all your personal details, so watch out!

Got a call from this number today, missed the caller ID and picked up anyway. Some pushy lady was on the line, trying to pitch Equinox identity protection. I told her I wasn't bothered and she just cut me off.

They ring me every single day but never bother leaving a message. I pick up occasionally, just to see what’s up. Today though, I’d had enough. I answered and just got silence. Waited a bit and said hello once more - still nothing. Usually by the second hello, some automated voice jumps in if it’s a robocall. So yeah, I might’ve shouted a few choice words at the silent phone... then it suddenly hung up. Can’t imagine a robot would take offence and drop the call. Feels like there’s a person behind it pretending to be a machine, hoping it’ll seem legit or something. If they ring again, I reckon I’ll just use the call as a venting session for when I’m feeling rubbish!

They've rang me loads of times. The way they chat just doesn’t sound professional at all - they have two different folks doing the greeting and then the main bit. Seems like a spam call to me, so I just hung up straight away.

Got a call from this number around 1 o'clock this afternoon (Wednesday, 15 March 2017). No voicemail was left though. Seems like the person calling me from here hasn't given up yet.

They keep ringing me every weekday evening, usually sometime between 5 and 8:30pm ET. Never leaves a voicemail and when I pick up and say hello, no quick response. If I tell them its not a good time, they just say they'll try again later. They also say they're with BMO, but I’m not sure about that.

I received two calls today from someone claiming to offer identity theft protection, saying they were connected to BMO Bank of Montreal. From what I’m seeing here, it looks like other people have had the same experience before. If these calls aren’t legit, you’d expect BMO to warn customers about this kind of scam, right? Seems odd they haven’t said anything.

For the past week, I've been getting this number ringing me every single day. I usually just ignore calls from numbers I don’t know but a couple of times they left a voicemail. They said they were from the RCMP’s Office of Homeland Security and asked for me by name. Right away, that sounded dodgy since Canada doesn’t have a Department of Homeland Security. They insisted I call back because it was urgent and they wanted the contact details for my lawyer. They warned me not to dismiss the call or pretend it’s not important, adding something like “if you choose to ignore this, all I can say is good luck. Have a nice day.” I reported it to both my local police fraud unit and the RCMP. Honestly, I’d tell everyone to watch out for these sorts of scams - it’s just a scare tactic trying to con people.

Some bloke rang up sayin he was Adam Blake from the BMO Bank of Montreal, askin to chat with my missus. We never get calls from BMO at all. If they really needed to reach us, I’m pretty sure they’d write us a letter first rather than just ring out of the blue.
