I recently ventured online to grab some fresh maps for my GPS device. Just as I was getting started, a chat window appeared on what seemed to be the official Garmin website, requesting my name and phone number, promising a callback shortly. Unfortunately, the caller was nothing but an imposter, feigning to offer assistance. I foolishly let him poke around in my Mac (a dreadful blunder) and he claimed he discovered malware, infections, and a load of other junk. He offered to "clean" everything up-for a price, of course. I should mention, I own a Mac, not a Windows machine. This phone number I noted down resembles others linked to similar distressing encounters.
