Did anyone else get a message from 8442005676? On 8th June 2023, I got this really long text claiming it was from Gavin Newsom, complete with his photo. The message mentioned some Constitutional amendment about gun laws in the US, talking about raising the age for buying guns and banning assault rifles. I’m not sure if it’s legit or just some sort of scam. The text asked to sign a petition through a link that looked a bit suspicious to me: https://act.gavinnewsom.com/go/cons-amendment. It all felt a bit off, and I wouldn’t trust it without double-checking. Has anyone else seen this or know if it’s a scam?

Some unknown number sent me a text with a picture, but I didn’t bother to open it. Not sure who it was from.

Okay so here’s the deal, if you’re after a legit answer and not some nonsense: steer clear of that number. I checked the link on a different phone and it weirdly took me to a Honda website. Plus, the message ends with “Stop to stop” which sounds super dodgy instead of the usual “Reply STOP to opt out.” My guess is it’s part of one of those pig butchering scams, aiming at pissed off republicans who might just respond without thinking.

Somebody said they were Gavin Newsom and kept sending me links about this 28th amendment thing, but it was all fake and just felt like harassment. Proper annoying and just a load of rubbish.

Honestly, changing the constitution seems pretty unlikely with him. If you watch how he's managing things in California, it doesn't inspire much confidence.
